I know it goes without saying that it doesn't compare with what Cathryn and Dale have dealt with, but twice I've had to make the decision to put down a couple dogs that had been with me, night and day, for many years. Tough decision, but certainly humane.

I had to make the decision of life support for both parents. The real grief starts when life support is removed and then they don't die.....the wait begins. Also buried my older brother at the age of 39. I spent my 38th birthday at the funeral. Been a pall bearer for all of my older relatives. I'm now the patriarch of the clan.

My 45 year old brother went quick after unplugged. Born with a heart defect in 1966 but they said to wait until his 40s to do the surgery, said he’d be more prone to heart attacks later in life. Surgery went 100% perfect. After in recovery, they stuck a feeding tube into a lung. No O2 for about 20min. Brain dead. Went to talk to him just before the plug but he was already gone, body just a shell. Eyes were half open with weird greyish eyes. I knew I was just talking to myself. There was a few of us in the decision. But his wife made the call. Hospital made a change of procedure and settled out of court, and now my sister in law is a nurse.

Nothing that compares to what you 2 have been through I agree. After hearing that, no decisions I've ever made can compare. I'm so sorry for both of you. You have my prayers.

Jack As Jack said, it certainly doesn't compare to having to make that choice for a family member, but putting down my dog this past April was the hardest thing I've ever personally had to do.

Had to help make that decision for both of my parents. Mom told us to let her go about 3 days before we had to decide.
Looks like he needs another year;-)
