Not a good representation for the Badger State- I wouldn't blame it all on the College towns either: It looks like Iowa & Minnesota need to pick up the pace.
Green Bay, WI Eau Claire, WI Appleton, WI Madison, WI Fargo, ND/MN Oshkosh-Neenah, WI Missoula, MT Grand Forks, ND/MN Wausau, WI La Crosse-Onalaska, WI/MN Mankato/North Mankato, MN Fond du Lac, WI Iowa City, IA Dubuque, IA Sheboygan, WI Watertown-Fort Drum, NY Lincoln, NE Fairbanks, AK Ames, IA Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis, WI

Curious what their criteria was to determine that?
Also interesting that all the cities are in northern states. They had some indices listed: Bars per capita, OWI's, alcohol sales by city, etc. I forget but the number for Brandy sales and consumption for Wisconsin = something like 80% of total capacity

I have seen similar numbers and cities before.
it is very much a culture thing for Wisconsin
it could be called cities over a given size in WI , very few cities not listed on that in the state and those that aren't are basically in the metro area for one of those larger cities.
you stop over to my yard to talk and I am going to offer you a beer.
go out for dinner and you order a beer
stop and chat at your grandpas house , get offered a beer
any party you go to there will be coolers of beer
we had a keg for my sons baptism party
go camping there will be beer in the cooler
take your kids to the bar , some even have toys for the kids
your local bar in many places is like the community living room for the neighborhood
this doesn't make you a drunk
it is the drink of WI
and drinking is a pass time in WI
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Wrong, drinking 1 or 3 beers at those events doesn't make you a drunk. It makes you a drinker. I'm sure it's a regional thing. But alcohol at a religious event just doesn't happen in my circle. Guess it's like dropping F bombs. Northerners just talk like that and see no issues.

State full of drunks ?? the baptism party , it was August , family was in from out of town. we were serving brats so needed some to cook the brats also I have a "small" family you know only 20-30 some first cousins 15 aunts and uncles and thats on my side if you add it the wife's side you get more. I was just at my great aunts 90th birthday party 200-250 we boiled fish for 200 but they also had brats , hamburger sand hot dogs for the non fish eating weirdos in the family that was just my dads moms side of the family. my grandparents church had beer tappers in the wall and a roll out bar for banquets and weddings in the church basement. about every church festival here has a beer tent city festival , yup beer tent also softball tournament , yup beer concessions county league baseball , the Lions clubs big fundraiser is the ball game concessions , beer in cans and brats and dogs and popcorn for food

I will put Browerville MN up against all. I can't believe it didn't make the list. They used to brag about the liquor store being the highest sales in the state. I think it like a lot of the smaller cities , villages and crossroads in WI it is just too small to count. plenty of places that have 4 corners 3 bars and church (not Baptist) , that the per capita consumption would be much higher than the cities

I remember back a few decades. In the 70's, Moscow, Idaho (of which I was a resident and college student) was listed by Playboy magazine, as consuming the most beer per capita in the United States. That was largely because the drinking age in Washington was 21 years old, and it was only 8 miles over to Washington State University (Wazoo), the drinking age in Idaho was 18, so all the Wazoo students came to Moscow to party.

My question is fun drunk or Jesus Christ bro stop drunk ? well alcoholism happens I have a couple uncles who died as a result of it , but they were darn friendly drunks and very hard workers , they didn't let their drinking get in the way of being to work on time, well till they died. in WI bars close at 0200 so you can catch a few hours sleep and still be at work at 0600 even if you lack a little self control yourself. 3rd shift bars open at 0600 but mostly people just have a few and supper . its drinking , not drunking. sure college kids and young people get drunk more even the nuns at the convent crack a beer on Friday nights in WI

Jack Could be the same effect here- all the out of staters are running up our numbers by taking Spotted Cow home across borders. or not Kenosha , Beloit , Racine and Janesville didn't make the list , those would be the closest to the border to buy spotted cow and run back into the ILL state my wife works with some transplants from the ILL state they are weird , the high school football team the Monroe Cheesemakers were in the playoffs and they really wanted to see the game , but it was on a streaming only ppv lots of the Monroe taverns were going to have it streaming for locals to watch. they wouldn't take their kids to the bar to see it. I mean it's not like you have to buy them a beer , although you can. I bet this blows some minds here - a parent can buy their child a drink in a bar in WI

The largest ethnic heritage for whites in the USA is German and the US overall is about 12-15% Germanic, WI is well over 40% and that could be part of the heavy or heavier drinking culture. As stated we don't know if there is a separation from the number of drinks, versus the actual being drunk and how that was tabulated. WI is also very high on the list for brandy consumption as well as beer. After German the next largest ethnic groups in WI are Polish, Norwegian and Irish Bryce The little area I grew up in Michigan was about 50% Polish and 50% Irish. And 100% catholic. Parishioners had their own beer mugs hanging in the basement of church

Isnt Wisconsin home to a lot of the big breweries? I wonder if people drink a lot because of the breweries,or if the breweries set up shop there because the peole drink a lot?
Also probably a lot of the people in Appalachia make their own.So difficult to track. My cousin in Cleveland was a truck driver and always brought back a few jars of firewater from there for me when I was visiting the family..

It is legit. Heritage and customs are a part. German, Polish, Irish, Bohemian, etc. All settled this state and like to drink. A lot of social, to much excess. College towns help the lead in binge drinking. Parents did it, their parents did it, it's ok for their kids as well. Went to a personal health deal for our counties schools, all were there. First slide up show the bars, them drinking, the kids cheered, "the presenter was not impressed" . I was a teacher, and AD, still a coach I refuse to go to any types of celebration type parties. I am one who will turn students athletes in.

first he is not my president he is not a catholic in good standing , he was told to stop taking communion and priests told not to give it to him. if he wanted to settle up , go to confession , repent and change his ways but he doesn't appear to and it isn't everything , but cripes it's a beer and a little gambling for the church. 50/50 raffles are a heck of a money maker.

In Ky your not even allowed in a liquor store unless your 21. Take your kids to a bar ??? Hmmm Not me. ''Next question. If you drink a beer for every meal does that mean your an alcoholic? You can be an alcoholic and not lay drunk all the time..
Someone ask about communion . Grape juice in all the Methodist, Baptist and Presbyterian churches I've taken it at. Would have taken wine if offered. Big difference in 1-2 oz of wine per quarter vs 3 beers a day. Don't get me wrong I enjoy a beer during hot weather. But a 12 pack will last me 3 months. Those small town bars are often community hubs and stopping in with your kids in tow is normal and expected. No big deal. They also are sometimes the only "restaurant" in town, so everyone is welcome.

Not many states I really like on the wrong side of the Mississippi River, but WI is one. Maine is the other. Before "micro brews" were popular one of the things I liked about WI was about every town had a brewery.
I still think Las Vegas serves more ethanol per annum than any other city.

I don't recall the exact numbers; but according to some medical that data that I have seen:
Two or three drinks in a day, or 6 or 7 in a week makes you an alcoholic.
Hi, my name is T-Rex, and I am an alcoholic.
Now I need to make a run to Wisconsin to pick up a jug of Everclear 195®. The gov doesn't think Minnesotans can handle it.

I thought you had to get drunk to be an alcoholic my normal is 2 miller lights a night sometimes 3 , 3-4 on weekends yet I can count on one hand the times I have even had a buzz this year but I drink no pop, no juice , no sugar so really less than a slice of bread in carbs and calories a day. I hardly think that makes me an alcoholic.

Not a good representation for the Badger State- I wouldn't blame it all on the College towns either: It looks like Iowa & Minnesota need to pick up the pace.
Green Bay, WI Eau Claire, WI Appleton, WI Madison, WI Fargo, ND/MN Oshkosh-Neenah, WI Missoula, MT Grand Forks, ND/MN Wausau, WI La Crosse-Onalaska, WI/MN Mankato/North Mankato, MN Fond du Lac, WI Iowa City, IA Dubuque, IA Sheboygan, WI Watertown-Fort Drum, NY Lincoln, NE Fairbanks, AK Ames, IA Milwaukee-Waukesha-West Allis, WI (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman), and my wife conned me into buying a home in Wisconsin???

I grew up in a little town in Wisconsin in Oconto County called Klondike. It only had 4 corners. Just a cross roads. The four corners consisted of three Bars and a Church. No kidding.

I made some Firewater for a wedding. Come to find out it was for a State Trooper. He became one of my best customers until he was transferred to the Capitol.

In Wisconsin you can walk into the Church Parking lot and see a Carnival and Band set up and Beer and drinking booths set up everywhere. First time I ever saw that one. My wife took me to it. I thought I was going to church and ended up at a Beer Church Fest!!!

It can sure get a grip on you ,kinda sneaks up on you if you are not careful . When in high school my English teacher (a Nun ) asked me to read the short story "John Barley Corn " by Jack London .It has stuck with me for 60 years . Every kid should read it !

I quit drinkin years ago,but I still have a big scrapbook of pictures of a bunch of people passed out who thought they could drink me under the table.

we are still one of the most lax states on DUI
and if you get one on a boat , Atv , Utv or snowmobile they are different than if you get it in a car
I have no issue with drinking but no patients for drunk driving
you can not endanger other people .
if it were up to me you would be restricted to 50cc vehicles aka a moped to get you to work after your 2nd DUI
why are we lax-ish, well it would have been really hard at one time to have a police force if your first DUI was a felony , a lot of cops had one and it is a miss demeanor in WI
we were 0.10 but in about 1999 it went to 0.08 to get federal highway money
sort of like the domestic , if you ever had a domestic call making it keep you from owning a gun , at the time they discussed that it would have cut the police force by around a 1/3rd
so you have to be convicted of it, that is really a due process issue also
there are a lot of grants out for targeted DUI enforcement and since covid a lot of that money has been sitting on the table with PDs struggling to keep enough officers just to maintain patrols
bored cops are hard on Drunks , Over worked cops write the reports and move on when the drunks crash into someone.
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I think everyone needs to take a step back and drink Wisconsibly! Good wisecrack. 2 points it's a t-shirt they sell here https://www.drinkwisconsinbly.com/?...2vVCod4y-ItAx4D5LlFs_gi4nOhoCNrQQAvD_BwEWisconsin regulates alcohol on a local level that is one of only 3 states in the country Hawaii , Indiana and Wisconsin Hawaii , regulates by the county so each island is it's own county Indiana does the same by county Wisconsin is unique in that every municipality regulate their own , every , city ,village and township we have 7 classes of liquor license class A what is called beer and wine only for off premise consumption (gas station or grocery beer & wine) class "A" full off premise consumption license beer , wine , liquor (grocery store or liquor store with all) class "A" cider only class B beer and fermented malt beverages for on site consumption class "B" a full bar Temp class B festival , ball game , charity ride , VFW events , fairs class C wine only served with meal , reseal option on bottle all licenses renew July 1 that is all the rest of the state , then Milwaukee is its own licensing entity and handles if different than that I don't handle any licensing in MKE so I don't know that it is anything other than different than the rest of the state the up side to this is every single village board town council and city council gets to decide the terms of issuance if there is a big issue with bar fights like there used to be here , we sat all the license holders down together and said , enough , are you going to resolve this or are we going to staggered closing times and cut bar fights outside the bars to almost nothing. 5 bars with doors less than 100 yards from each other made and interesting 0200 back several years

That's some nice stuff on that website , GREENCOUNTYPETE. Cool slogan.
I gotta laugh , my state (CT) years ago had a drinking age of 18. As soon as I turned 18 I was legal. Shortly thereafter they started to bump it up. I kept legal every time they bumped it with the exception of when it went to 21. However , the law went into effect July 1st. So on June 30th at 20 years old I was legal. July 1st I was not. July 2nd was my 21st birthday and I was legal again.
So on July 1st of that year I got one more chance to drink underage and I did.....lol
I had a guy I worked with at the time who was just slightly younger than me and got screwed every time the age bumped up. He was seriously ticked off. I don't blame him. He had to wait all the way to age 21.

He had to wait all the way to age 21. when something that was legal yesterday isn't for the same person today but will be for then again next week the law is broke and all respect for it is lost that happened for my uncle , was 18 then jumped to 21 , he was still 20 but my aunt his tiny little Very pregnant at the time wife was 21 and legal to buy beer , she would push a whole cart out of the liquor store in Kenosha to the parking lot where he and his friends from the AMC motors plant were waiting. also besides your parent being able to buy you a drink while you are under age , if your married and your spouse is 21 they can also buy you a drink welcome to Wisconsin and interesting drinking culture. when we were on my son's graduation from high school trip we saw a 2 dollar old fashion happy hour at a restaurant in Onalaska and stopped in , each ordered an old fashion , the waiter asked for his ID , I said he is 17 but I am his father , he said ok , I need to see both your ID's , he checked them and said ok you really are his father I will be back with your old fashions in a minute , he was not from WI but understood the law and was cool with it. he just wanted to make sure he checked. my son used to work at a supper club for the mainly Friday night fish fries from 15-17 he makes very good old fashion himself , his job was in the kitchen , he made the drinks at home. you can because it is a legit occupation be an alcohol server at 18 but can't legally drink it till 21 in WI you can't keep a person from working in WI as long as they are 18. even a cop in WI can be 18 , but the department has to buy his or her gun. I think the only Job you can't hold in WI at 18 is US congressman or senator.

I suppose that you would have to define what qualifies as a city. Hurley and New Diggings aren't on the list. Most anyone in Wisconsin has heard of Hurley. Dad was born in New Diggings and he always said that if you could see over the bar in New Diggings, they would serve you and if you couldn't, they would give you something to stand on.
I'm just a soul whose intentions are good. O Lord please don't let me be misunderstood.
