Anyone know of a bait/lure maker that uses peanuts or peanut oil in their baits or lures. I know keeping deer out would probably be an issue, but these coyotes down here are eating peanuts off the deck right now. There’s babies running around everywhere and these stupid things run the deer off to get to the peanuts. Was mainly setting them out for hogs, but once you kill a few pigs off the bait the deer are unmolested and come on in. Now the coyotes are running them off. We have more fawns this year than I think I’ve ever seen and I’d think they’d provide more of a meal than scattered peanuts.

I know folks who use peanut butter on bait stations for night scope or thermal coyote hunting. Works very well according to them.

Ive got one that I made as a bite and pull style lure with peanut butter, but I havent done any testing to see if its any good. Makes sense that they are on free peanuts to me. Good protein with nearly 0 chance of getting kicked in the face by a mama deer. I see a lot of peanut filled coyote poo later on in the season once deer season goes out

Dogs love peanut butter so does not surprise me in the least.

Curious though, is it an acquired taste or an instinctual thing. As in are peanuts a draw just where peanuts are readily available or would a coyote that's never seen a peanut come into a peanut based lure?

Next would be nontargets. Safe to assume opossums as those are four legged stomachs. Hogs trampling sets? Deer? Squirrels and rodents?

I do know the wife's ferret loves peanut butter.

I would think curiosity would draw them in whether they have tasted peanut butter or not.

Think some lure makers use peanut oil to "tincture" skunk essence

Peanuts were placed for hogs, these are out of the shell peanuts and good edible peanuts. Of course if no hogs come in then the deer do. Well a coyote has shown up on this site. He’s hit it the last three nights now. I have videos off the hog cam of coyotes feeding on them. I even have a couple of pics of a doe on one end of the pile and a coyote on the other end. Both eating, lol.
What I have found if hogs find them is after you kill a few off that site, no more hogs come around, but the deer start flocking to it. We’ve come across a few nice bucks that way.

It’s my experience that if hogs come through they are going to work any set regardless if it has “hog attractive” scents. I didn’t save any, but I have had several videos over the last couple years of hogs working sets very aggressively. Even rolling and rubbing on.
I’m not sure that peanuts are overly attractive to them though, I suspect that they just represent a food opportunity that uses nearly 0 energy to obtain so they feed on them opportunistically. Just a theory though

I agree. What I’ve found is after feeding say a bag or roughly 50#, if they show up it’s only for a very short period of time (15min).
Now once that has been fed on by deer and birds and it gets down to say 10# or less scattered around, they will stay on that up to an hour.
It’s like if they “know” there’s a lot there, then they’ll hit it quick and move on. If there’s very little, they stick around and vacuum up every last nut. That’s why the majority of my feeding is done on Wednesday so by Friday and Saturday nights they stay longer and I can sneak in on them.

Now with the coyote, this is the only site he/she has hit. The only reason I set at this location was fresh rooting, but no pigs have been on camera since the peanuts were scattered.

I know you can’t see the peanuts, but trust me, they’re there.

Are these raw peanuts or roasted?
Just curious because I have never tried feeding raw peanuts. Any of you know if bear like raw peanuts?

Raw peanuts. These are human edible if so desired. I haven’t found ANYTHING that doesn’t eat peanuts.

Great, I’ll give them a try. Do raw peanuts go bad quick in the big white fertilizer bags if they are under shelter?

They will eventually go rancid but will keep for awhile if kept cool and dry.

Much like pecans or other nuts high in oil. Freezing is best for long term storage.

I have 4 55gal sealed drums I keep excess in, although I feed weekly and get refilled weekly, so they don’t have time to sit around. I feed year round as well. Our deer get them after the rut, during antler growth, does get them while pregnant and after birth, even have fawns on them already. The turkeys come through scratching around occasionally. And you’ll know when you have hogs, they’ll wipe out 50# overnight. Heck even the coyotes like them. Guess it’ll help them as well, more coyotes, more money to be made.
