I think there was a thread about this but I am going to ask again if anybody has ordered a small outboard motor online through power equipment Direct or any other company That deals with outboards on Line. I am looking for a 5 or 6 horse short shaft. Honda, or Mercury. Just wondering how safe it is.
And if anybody has had problems ordering this way .

I ordered an 18 hp Tohatsu years ago with no issues, Had it delivered to a business to save the home delivery fee. Don't remember the outfit.

Friend of mine has ordered 2 in the last 2 years, both were super deals. The outfit was and shipped the motors from somewhere in southern Ohio as I recall. That is the only way I would do it, some business located d in this country.

The motors came with all the warranty rights etc but this spring his Suzuki needed a warranty part replaced and the dealership doing the work was a nightmare. I really like those 4 stroke Suzukis but up here in Minnesota service work for those at dealerships is known to be very poor.

Better find out how whatever brand you buy handles warranty stuff. It sometimes requires a licensed dealer to go through the new outboard and get it ready to go from out of the box.

I bought a 5hp mercury online a couple years ago. Put it on a credit card for in case. No complaints. Have not had any problems. Took about a week to get here.
