The internet tree ID sites, Clark, rat pack, and I say it is BOX ELDER.

BigBob says we are wrong but offers no further info.

Swamp, Clark, and rat pack, I see why you might say box elder. But look closely at the internet tree ID sites and count the leaflet pairs. Look at image search of the box elder leaf. None that I can find have more than two pairs of leaflets behind the terminal leaflet of each leaf. Sometimes there are local phenotypes that can be a little different, and that may be the case here, but I see at least a couple leafs with 3 pairs behind the terminal leaflet. And it just does not look quite right for the way the box elder AROUND HERE look. We all really need better and more pictures to settle it. And even then, pictures can sometimes be deceiving. But I honestly dont think it is either TOH or box elder, but I can see why someone might say either of those. From what I see in those limited out of focus pictures. Im giving myself a pass because of the need for more better pictures

If I had to make a best guess based on those pics, I would go box elder before tree of heaven. A picture of the small woody branch ends will help a lot, they tend to have a certain green tone but still be woody, thats what I would look at to confirm box elder. But those extra pairs of leaflets make me uneasy about calling it box elder without other characteristics to check.

Without better pictures we just can not be sure, but it does not look like tree of heaven or box elder, although it has some similarities to box elder. I have seen ash cultivars in cities similar to what the pictures show, but without better pictures or seeing it in person, I cant tell what it is for sure.

I'd say box elder, with some signs of distress. The number of leaflets can be variable, younger and healthier trees seem to have fewer and wider leaflets. The pink blush on the nodes is also typical for box elder. A nasty invasive here, especially in urban/suburban ecosystems and along roads, very difficult to eradicate. It also destroys our small river ecosystems by creating total shade where literally nothing else grows, causing bank erosion.

I have some growing in the backyard along my fence line and in back at the creek.
You guys identified them for me last year as Box Elder.

Looks like the box elders my Dad has. He trims them back to stumps every other year and they grow like wildfire

Here is what I meant. Stressed trees or branches produce narrower leaves with more leaflets. The healthy leaf I'm holding is from another branch of the same tree. The distress in this case is from a powdery mildew fungus.

OP said the branches seemed bamboo''ish. That makes me think its more Tree of Heaven because the things are hollow/have a soft center almost corklike.

We need better pictures of other parts of the tree. Those are too blurry and dont show enough characteristics for me to say I am sure.

The leaves in the first pic appear different than the leaves in the second pic to me. First pic looks like some species of elderberry (Sambucus sp.) Possibly black elderberry.

Leaves in second pic appear to be off of a vine of somewhat perhaps?

Looks kind of similar to sumac species (Rhus spp.), but I think they have alternate leaves, not opposite.
