allopurinol. Never heard of it. So do you have to take these all the time?

The weird thing is, I got blood tests done and the acid levels were low so the doc was hesitant to treat it as gout. Said my vitamin B12 level was super low so I take a 2500mg pill a day but still flares up every 3-4 months.

I take 100 mg of allopurinol daily to keep my uric acid level down close to the mid range of normal.

And after reading your post Shakeyjake, I looked up reference on causes of gout and Mayo clinic says that if your kidneys do not produce enough uric acid that it can accumulate and cause gout. I knew excess uric acid could cause gout but was not aware that insufficient uric acid production could also cause gout.

Looked up my prescription, its a 300mg. tablet once a day. (about $.30 per tablet through my on-line pharmacy)

One doc told me years ago that gout was kind of a mystery. He was diagnosing his neighbour and over half a year they couldn’t figure out what was causing his flare ups. He said there’s just no money and research going into it. The next flare I have, I might go to a good sports clinic I know of near here. Mayo would be the ticket!
