Gives you more time to react if something comes out of the woods on the side of the road too. Just more visibility when you’re riding……

If you are talking pedal bikes, this is true. But legally they are also required to follow all the same laws as motor vehicles*, and it is illegal for them to ride two abreast. We used to call the extended mirrors on pickups for pulling trailers, "bicycle mirrors" because they stuck way out at just the right height catch bicyclers.

*Back when I was in high school, one of the guys in my class got a DUI on a bicycle. He knew he was to drunk to drive, so he took his little brothers bike, he was apparently too drunk to bike also and managed to run into a light pole and crash. To add insult to injury, while he was at the hospital getting stitched up the cops did a blood alcohol test and gave him a DUI and a MIP. A couple years later I knew of a guy who got a speeding ticket on a bicycle, going 39 mph in a 20 mph school zone. Really quite impressive he got a bicycle up to 39 mph, even if it was downhill.

Question: If (for whatever reason) someone didn't have a driver's license and got a DUI while riding a bicycle... What are they going to do besides fine them? They can't yank their DL if they don't have one. They gonna put one of those breathalyzer doodads on someone's Huffy?

When I am on my bike I don't hug the centerline , but I will stay to the left of the center of my lane for better viability/avoidance and out of the grease slick.

One thing I have learned over the years is when parking in a parking lot is to park my bike near the back or middle of the parking space instead of parking deep into the spot. What this does is make it more obvious to cars that the space is taken. I've heard of other bikers who have had their bike hit&run by someone thinking the spot is empty and pulling in quickly and then hitting the bike parked there.

They can make it longer until they are eligible to get a DL. Otherwise, I guess jail time.

In my state (CT) you need a automobile license or motorcycle license to operate a 49cc or smaller scooter. No registration or insurance required but you must have a license. Any scooter 50cc or larger is just like a motorcycle with a motorcycle license , registration and insurance. No rules yet on electric scooters/bicycles.

I think the reason they have the minimum of an automotive license on 49cc and below is so you are familiar with the rules of the road and abide by them. Any infractions are held against your automotive license.

Pedal bikers hug the white line to avoid all the trash (nails, broken glass, etc) that folks in 4 wheel vehicles can't see.

I usually ride in the left track on my side of the road. If you are talking about the ones that ride with there left foot hanging a foot over the center line I don’t understand it at all. It looks like a good way to lose a foot.

Looks like he needs another year;-)
