Id hire an electrician to replace your fuse box with a breaker box before you get into some trouble fooling around with it.

Turn the power off in case you get shocked when installing the new fuse

Hummmm, interesting going to a trouble call when the customer gives info like this….lol. Lightning/surge protectors are hit n miss. Sometimes they work. The better ones are connected in the panel protecting the house, but quite often the shot has gone through before the arrester can do its job….electricity’s pretty quick. Buuut, if the sub transmission line falls into the distribution line below for whatever reason(wind, trees lightning shatters pole, vehicle accidents etc) and the fella at system control hits the close button a few times, there’s alotta blown transformers and damaged property for miles of the hit.

Wind Blew, crap flew, out came the line crew

Ok the reason in u tube vid. It say turn power of while install fuse is so u don't get shocked ..it don't damage any electrical stuff . An now I understand surge procters . I'm case lighting strike. I was think it something do with power go out an damage computer. I waste $30 on buy one from dish tech. He move my dish free of charge on roof , because loss singal. I with dish for years an felt sorry for tech which stupid an bought worthless surge procters for $30 an quit there when try sell me more stuff. For the junk I got. Idk about lighting strike. Never happen . Annual furnace inspection a good idea, never had one other lots parts put on it years back . One main things is with 2 stage gas furnace is to keep good filter in it an change often

Coon, how can you afford AC ? Do you get government assistance on power bill ? Only AC I can afford is by opening my windows. Power bills go thru the roof when you have AC . If you move to the basement in the summer a lot cooler plus good place to be if tornado blows thru.

Don't turn the power off and try it a couple times. Sooner or later you'll learn why u tube says turn the power off.
