Congratulation on the nice melon. the excessive rain got to my big one. I'll definitely be trying again next year.

Looks good, but how did they know that was blue ribbon worthy if they didn't crack it open and eat it?

We bought a nice looking melon at a roadside stand, but it was over ripe and mushy. Chickens even left most of it.

BTW, green stripers with seeds are very, very good. My pick if available.

Congratulations. Do you grow a lot of watermelons, or just a few that you try to get to a huge size, to compete with?

Any tips for producing giant watermelons?

Keith

Carolina cross variety , good compost type soil , cow manure etc , when u set a melon you like commit to it and remove all others , I have grown some to eat but those are Charleston grays, I like growing big ones this melon had plenty of potential but the fair is when it is . It’s been a trial and error game for me this is my sixth winner .

Do you save seeds from your winners or use use the same Carolina cross variety?

Keith I save seeds from a different melon. The one I took isn’t close to being ripe , I’ve got another dandy growing right now for me and hopefully some seeds if you need some let me know I don’t mind sharing that’s just how I operate lol
