Wife and I are heading to Pasha Lake Cabins for the first ten days of September. It’s in Ontario, we haven’t traveled to Canada in the last 15 years. We got passports renewed and starting to get excited and ready. Has anyone fished this area? I also have some questions about what we can take in Canada for food?

Leave your freedom at the border. Premier Castro frowns on that.

You can’t take any unprocessed food that is grown in the ground, like potatoes. Several years ago we were crossing at International Falls and got selected for a search. They found our two bags of potatoes we had just bought at the grocery store and said those aren’t allowed. I tried to throw them in a dumpster nearby but they stopped me. They told me I had to take them back across the bridge to the US. I started walking back across the bridge on the pedestrian walkway, got about halfway across and there laying at the foot of a light pole were two bags of potatoes the last guy had left. I put my two bags beside those and walked back to our truck/boat. We went two blocks and stopped at a grocery store on the Canada side, bought two bags of potatoes that looked identical to the ones I had to leave on the bridge.

It’s been a while since I’ve fished over near Nipigon, it’s all good. The walleyes should be moving up shallower at that time.
As for foods poultry and eggs are the most asked about items I run into. I do not think you can bring any live or even dead/frozen minnows for bait. Worms rebedded is all that are allowed.
Cool nights and mornings, don’t forget your long John’s.

Our guides website, along with several others indicate no worms/crawlers allowed....in fact, they cant even be transported from one region to the other in certain areas of Ontario. Invasive species restrictions at their best....

I’m not sure on that. Probably terrible! I’m hoping to take some pork chops, venison sausage, burger and stuff like that. It’s all home processed so that’s what I’m unsure of out being able to cross with.

I don't believe you can take that. As I recall from June, any meat needs to have a "Product of the USA" sticker on it so anything home packaged won't make it. Also, no live bait. If you are going to the Nipigon area, I suggest hitting the Walmart on the North side of Thunder Bay. You will drive right buy it and the LCBO (liquor store) is right next door. I would strongly suggest you check out the Canadian Customs and Border Protection website. It spells it out pretty clearly what you can and can't bring. It may also be worth checking on official "Boater Operator Safety". I don't THINK it is required until 2024 but I can't swear to that. Have fun and enjoy your trip. Keep a clean camp too so you don't get uninvited visitors in camp.

Make sure you keep your receipt from any bait you buy too. Keep it with your license.

I wonder if you could ship some stuff to the cabins to be waiting on you?

I stand corrected, I was wrong. You cannot take ANY live bait into Ontario anymore. As said above if you buy it up there make sure you keep the receipt and know which zone your in or crossing to. They restrict between zones.
I haven’t taken live bait over in sheesh, 25 years? 1/8 to 1/2 oz colored jig heads tipped with a colored 2” rubber paddle tails work very well. I’d lean a little towards orange/motor oil color that time of year as everything is chowing down on crayfish then. Pink and white is very good as well as others.
Have fun! I’ll be most of September 400 miles north west of there.

Contact there customs things change I hunt up there and bring nothing in other than my equipment. Their country their regulations I can understand that. Right now the exchange rate is very favorable for traveling up there.
