Patrice 1/2 gallon jugs frozen might work well for the outdoor water feature

it is all my dad uses any more for his fish coolers he saves the jugs from the milk and juice fills them mostly full and freezes them and just keeps washing and re-freezing them.

does what he needs and at almost no cost

he doesn't have as much in his freezers at any time any more so he might have 2 dozen of those jugs frozen up and stored in the big chest freezer in the basement .

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Too funny, Sharon. Now I have him wondering how our girls got UPS to deliver to their coop!

Thanks, Pete. I will see what is the maximum sized container I could slip in through the door into the bottom tier of their water feature where the pump is and try that out. The girls should like that!

Well, it's 72 degrees in the coop. We only have four hens and one is moulting. I just got three eggs from the coop. The girls are happy!

They still do, Lee. They get any fruit we have on hand. Sometimes before we do!

My wife turns the sprinkler on in the Pasture and the horses all back up and get soaked. They love it.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

That's nice, Randall! I may have to turn on a hose on the ground tomorrow so the girls can soak their feet while they're outside.

You must have got all our cool and wet. I had over $500.00 power bill from running air conditioner and fans 24/7. I hear the caribou are super fat this summer no mosquitos hardly its been too hot for them.

Thats crazy. We almost never even get to 70 f /21 c degrees all summer here. No one here even owns an air conditioner. Very wet cool summer this year.

Jeff, I hope you got that weasel. All that work and waiting. What are you using for a heater for chicks? Some really nice ones available these days.

I could not bash the weasel he was in the nest and I didnt want to crush the eggs, but he saw I was not happy and streaked away as fast as a weasel can go. They usually don't bother the chickens but do roll eggs away on occasion.

The new heater is made by Econo Home. Its a 18" X 11 and throws out some heat. It has a automatic "on and off" to prevent overheating. It has a two year warranty. should do good this winter.

Jeff, is that an electric flat panel heater? I looked it up and found a few different things.

I checked on the girls early this morning. It was in the 60's in there and they were sitting around, relaxing and listening to local news.

Now it's 104 outside with a heat index of 111. It's 84 and much drier in the coop. The girls were in the run, sitting on the ramp to their coop, enjoying the cool air blowing down the ramp!

After they heard the local news, they called me and asked some questions about my Montana.

They said they were going to discuss their thoughts some more, have a community vote, then talk it over with you and Zim. They said they may well want to move out here . I didn't comment one way or the other wink

I'm helping raise 40 some pheasants and as long as they have water and food they are making It.
We got them from the game farm at .10cents each. They are all hens we are just releasing them to see If they make It. I have my doubts.
I wanted to raise them up to eating size.

Yes, its the 150 watt flat panel heater. It looks like a small flat screen TV. Its only 3/4 of an inch thick.

Its similar to the last one I had, it lasted for about five years, and in Alaska that's pretty good.

The orange heat coil looking thingy is not on it, its flat black. Price is $32.

Sharon, it is currently 112 here. miserable as all get out. i cant imagine how the critters are surviving this heat and lack of rain. if you know of a small parcel of land up there an old crippled cop/trapper can spend the late spring and summer, shoot me a message. This is darn near unbearable

This is new to me AC for chickens. I wonder how chickens made it thru hot weather in 1890s.

Dave, my heart truly goes out to yourself and yours, all of the Midwest, to south, the animals, everything that has been choking in this heat for so long.

I surely would wave you on up here . The perfect situation is for you to house sit, and all you'd need to do is be a good perimeter border security for the place. You sure are more than qualified ! I will keep my eyes open for such a deal. Many would jump on the opportunity, but few would be actually qualified. You surely would be.

I even hate to say what the temp was this morning in this high valley. 34 degrees. It is cooler here than many parts of Alaska. Granted, it is a cool front low system now. My favorite.

All I can do is encourage folks, that September is on its way, and the horrible highs surely have to be pushed out asap.

My mantra is always, rain is good. Sun is BAD.

Cathryn. I'm a born and raised deep southern girl too. But when I learned where north is, and moved, I'll never live there again. You must be much more suited to heat , than I !

Sorry, Sharon. The girls are cheeseheads through and through and love it here! There are some chicks somewhere who deserve to be in your care. You should think about that!

That's a good thing, Cathryn. Glad you're all doing okay!

Lock and load, Beav! laugh

Nice, Jeff! So they put the orange coils on the picture to illustrate how it exudes heat? Too funny. Looks really nice. I use Sweeter Heaters which are the same basic idea - flat panels you can hang or wall mount - and are fire safe and don't produce light. Nice products.

Sorry to hear that, Sheepdog! That is miserable. I sure hope it breaks soon.

Guss, I think it is new to almost everyone. I just post my ridiculous behavior to give you guys a good laugh.
