My route today took me right through the heart of Atlanta up Peachtree St coming in from Whitehall. A route I do my best to avoid. Probably been three years since I drove that route. Amazing the change in numbers of homeless and street people just wandering around. The city is dirtier with more trash than I've ever seen.

Yet all the high rises and new construction goes on. Even the neighborhood I went to just off Piedmont near the botanical garden had streets lined with contractors.

There is a serious disconnect in this country. Two worlds living side by side.

And I don't belong in either one.

My wife used to laugh at me when I drive to some of my out of state turkey trips because of the times I’d leave the house. IF I have to go through Atlanta I make it between 2300-0200. I literally despise driving through there. It doesn’t surprise me in the least. My brother took me to Spokane while I was out in Washington and they have an entire homeless area. To be honest, some of the campers and RV’s I saw makes me doubt their actual homelessness, but that’s what they are classified as.

Me neither

Got totally messed up this morning. Trying to do the 5am-9am half days and if I roll before five I can usually get in ahead of the worst of it and out as the other inbound lane is full. This morning there was a carbecue on the 285 westbound ramp from 75 that totally threw me off schedule.

But if you time it right you can experience going into town on both 75 and 20 during rush hour, lol.

Is it anything like this?

i try to avoid cities as much as I can. Had to go to the Apple shop in Knoxville a year or so ago and that was more than enough for me. If I had to stay in a city for a week I would wilt and crumple like a vampire in the sun I think. i could not imagine living in a place that has tall buildings etc. I get sweaty palms just driving through atlanta or Columbia on my way home from the coast.

Grandson's in Vo-Ag. He got to go on two field trips this summer for vo-ag, one to Chicago and one to Atlanta. He said Atlanta was WAY dirtier and more street people than Chicago. I was surprised.
Maybe the street people in Chicago are hiding out so they don't get shot.
