I wondered if they were hand picked or machine. Maybe 25% here are hand picked for fresh market. Guessing your varieties are somewhat different than what’s in this part of country. Around 20 years ago lots of low marshy and woodlot areas ( it’s a sandy low ph muck for most part) were cleared and planting acreage went thru roof. But lots of it has been ripped out recently and converted to cannabis first and now transitioning to hemp especially on the higher ground. Those still in fruit business are in a current kick to replace a lot of old varieties though especially with less late season stuff

It's actually getting kind of crazy on the blueberry scene. Some of the new patented varieties coming out are bought up by big nurseries like Fall Creek nursery and now rather than selling you the plant you actually pay an annual licensing fee and a percentage of your crop annually. In essence, you don't even own the plants anymore. Luckily I bought my plants before that kind of nonsense got started.

Currently paying $10 a bucket (5 qt) will soon be going up to $15. Any takers?

I don’t know details on how it works around here just general stuff as some of friends grow or have their place managed. Pretty short on help to pick this year. Something about some berries not coming off by machine and needing hand picked

I think MSU has had hand in developing a number of regional varieties along with the state marketing co-op. The pretty big nursery around here is the Degrandchamp family

I love the UGA variety "Ocklockonee". I have about 1500 of 'em.

Agreed. But I dare say you haven't tried Centra Blue. Most of the supermarket blues people get are just terrible.

I don't see them down here, but up in Kansas the best berries and produce is usually found on a tailgate and sold by an Amish or Mennonite woman.

Yours look awfully good tho BP. I'm sure I could eat them by the pound.
