When we were needing crawdads for bait we’d take the cane poles with nothing but line and tie chicken fat at the bottom and head to the crawdad hole. It was generally in the hottest part of the summer when nothing else was biting in the heat. You could watch your line or feel them grabbing ahold of it. You’d have to lift them out gently and we’d drop them in a coffee can to be used for cat fishing at night. We learned finesse at a young age, and caught nothing that size, lol!!

when I used to use worms for fishing it was common to catch a crayfish, no big deal.
