Raptor was my first thought but I would think they would of come back for it.

I should of skun it right away but I was in a rush to get to work then after work I setup a maternity pen, moving goats to the maternity pen didn't go as planned, back to work and by then it was a bit gone.

I think that sometimes predators do kill for fun, especially when there are easy pickins such as animals in a pen; particularly coyotes. I've seen it.

If there's a lot of game, especially once the young of the year are out of the nest and feeding on their own, most raptors won't go back to a kill.

To kill that kid, a raptor likely first grabbed the right side of the neck and left side of the chest and then dropped the right foot down to the chest and compressed and pierced the heart and lungs. The compression kills more than the bleeding. The talons have a near ratchet like action, pushing in, bit by bit and getting progressively tighter. There is likely puncture marks on the neck and left side of the chest still. The lower mark, from the rear tarsal, should be larger and more tear like.

From what I’ve seen, raptors usually enter the carcass through the soft areas, especially black vultures. Eyes, genital/anus area.

I’m not saying it want a bird as small an animal as the kid goat was, but whatever it was was after the heart and lungs.

I used to do a lot of falconry. The redtail hawks we hunted with would pull the muscle away from the rib bones on the rabbits and squirrels they caught and then pull and twist the bone, breaking them like that. The goat bones look more like they were broken that way, rather than chewed on.

That goat kid is smaller than some of the rabbits we used as "baggies", when we couldn't find any game.

The fact that the hole and damage is all continuous, makes it look like bird of prey damage too. They typically make one hole and work through it, expanding it as necessary.

bobcats usually cover stuff up before they leave

Bobcats are few and far between here.

Since I'm not sure what it was I figures the best course of action is just to get rid of anything that it could of possibly been, cover all the bases

Do you have any ranch mink farms close by? If it was a bit smaller I would have said a mink. But maybe one of those 30 pound coon you have up there.
