You Wisconsin boys correct me if I am wrong. So I cannot Trap for for Bobcat since it is too late to apply but Otter does not need to be applied for Limit is 1? So by the time I get finally moved and settled it will be the end of September. I may just target Mink Muskrat Beaver and Otter. Maybe later get the traps I want to use for Canines sipped and waxed. Does Bear hunting still need to be applied for? Do they have a point system? I remember that when I lived in Oconto County they were talking about it but that was back in mthe 80's and I never heard. Still trying to sort the regulations out. What about Fisher and Marten??
God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Otter is no tag no marten marten are up North not South were your going. Mountain Wisconsin in Oconto County is not far enough North?? I will be trapping in that area in the final month of Trapping season. Doesn't matter though if there is no Season but I was Bear Hunting up North in Oconto County and I could have sworn it was a marten that came snooping around in a Cedar Swamp where my Bear Bait was located, I watched it for about 15 minutes and it looked like one to me.

Just to summarize what others have said and add a little more info...
Bobcat - $6 application available 3/1 through 8/1, you can apply for just a point or apply for the tag. If you apply for the tag, you have to pick the zone (north or south of Hwy 64) and season (early is mid-October through Christmas, late is 12/26-1/31). In the north zone, expect to wait 3-5 years for a tag, in the south, 2-3 years.
Bear - $4.50 application available 3/1 through 12/10, but applying for the next year, so applications for the 2024 season are available right now. You can apply just for a point, or apply for the tag. If you apply for the tag, you have to pick one of the 6 zones. A, B and D are in the north where you can hunt with dogs or bait. C, E and F are in the south where hunting with dogs is prohibited. In the north zones, dog hunters and bait hunters switch every year who gets to hunt first. In even numbered years (2024, 2026, etc) bait hunters go first and start the Wednesday after Labor day with a full week to hunt before the dog hunters can start the following Wednesday. The same applies except in reverse for odd numbered years. The south zones take 1-3 years to draw a tag, the north zones take considerably longer (A: 9-10, B: 11-13, D: 1-2).
Otter - no application required, you get 2 free tags when you buy the trapping license.
Marten - no harvest allowed, very few in the state in secluded reintroduction zones in the north. Endangered in Wisconsin.
Fisher - $3 application available 3/1 through 8/1, you can apply for just a point or apply for the tag. If you apply for the tag, you have to pick the zone (north or south of Hwy 64), no season selection required. It only takes 1 year to draw a tag in the south zone, with some applicants getting 2 tags. In the north, it takes 3-4 years.
Have you completed a Wisconsin trapped education course? The regulations just changed that Wisconsin no longer accepts out of state trapper education courses, though you may be exempt if you purchased a Wisconsin trapping license prior to May 1992.

Oconto county has It all. Bear, deer upland bird hunting, decent fishing. Fisher bobcats wolves. The coyotes population has taken a big hit. I've trapped that area you will do OK.

I plan to hunt bear on the islands. I been buying points for 5 or 6 yea4s now....never applied for a tag as I know nothing about the islands or bears. Lol. I only trap coyotes these days but may try for otter this season. The trapping course is pretty in depth. Alot of good info. I got mine when the hands on/in the field stuff was called off due to covid so I have no idea what that's about or if it's even a thing now. After 40 years trapping the south, I still ain't got this froze, ice, deep snow thing figured out but it sure is fun trying! Like being a kid again! Lol. I'll hammer the coyotes early season, then winter hits, and its back to school! I love it. You'll love it to I'm sure. Good luck.
When you earnestly believe you can compensate for a lack of skill by doubling your efforts, there's no end to what you can't do.

Thanks for the info. I bought my first Trapping License in Wisconsin in 1980. I believe the last one I had was in 1999. I think that should make me OK.
