Actually no. Seems like bears move best on days when the weather is nice, and move late when it's hot. I tell people that bears like the same weather we do. When you're sitting in the stand thinking about how nice it is to be in the woods on a pleasant day, that's when you see the most bears. Mosquitoes are bad this year, so I will be paying more attention now you have me thinking.

I don’t have near the experience as many, but in my experience they’re more apt to come into a bait earlier on a nice average to cool day and rarely move before dark on the HOT days. Hence, I’m very down on the forecast for this weekend. Hope I’m wrong but I figure the chance of anything other than a 100 lber coming in before dark is slim…..but I guess I’ll find out!

I Have two baits out and a number of small bears and two nice ones coming in. Of course the nicest one is purely nocturnal and has been every single time it has visited. The one medium bear is very inconsistent, sometimes day, night, morning. I really want to put a tag on something as I have 4 days off to start the season and then like Bernie I’m headed over to the UP to bear hunt with my college roommates. Not to mention I’ll pretty much be outa bait after this weekend and don’t want to have to make/buy more. I ate my last tag and I know it didn’t taste as good as a 110 lb bear! Either way I’m trying to keep it fun and stay optimistic. Happy trapping! ScottW

Another new guy just showed up. Big bear and I don't even have a stand on this bait. Won't be hunting it until after the weekend most likely.

Guys, I'm not saying bears LIKE to move on real hot days. I personally think it's just to uncomfortable to lay down so they move.

One year about 20 years ago, 3 out of 4 of us s hot bear in one evening. It was in the low 90s.
The 3 that were shot were killed before 6p.m.
I could have also shot one that same eve and it came in about 1/2 hour after getting in a stand. I could hear it panting on the way in. Anyhow, nuff of that.

Putting in a plug for Boss...Skunky Backbreaker is an excellent call lure for opening new bait sites. Works as well or better than anything else I've used.

Good stuff! Baits on fire here still. 50 gallons of bait gone between 1 pm Monday and 5 pm Tuesday when I sat for the evening

Agree I 've used Sweetwater and liquid smoke to start out a new bait,look forward to this weekend of posting,I didn't draw and I'm sure it will be another 2 years before I draw again.Sure miss being out there baiting and hunting watching the bears and some years shooting the one you want.

Liquid Smoke works well. So does anise oil or paste and molasses is a good draw.

This guy was less than a mile from my house in town. I don't have to travel far to get into bear.

Most everyone here uses liquid smoke or anise.
Purdy much gauretee every bear that 3 years old has smelled it in mn.
Heck, I can smell baits driving down roads if I have the window down.
That there is ONE SOLE reason big OLD bear are seldom killed on a bait!

Because they were weaned on baits. They know the deal.

Now put out a bird feeder surrounded by dirty diapers and they will come from miles.

I am not even going to try hunting in these temps. I am going to wait another week of so. The thought of putting an animal down with temps in the 90's just doesn't appeal to me.
