So work has been busy and hardly find time to get out, well the boy has be hounding me about going squirrel hunting. So we found some time and called grandpa and we went. Not ideal for me to hunt this morning was humid and hot and leaves are still on but since we had time you take what you get. Anyways walked a buddys farm probably total 3 mile circle and ended up shooting this guy 75 yards from the truck on the way back. I didn't even pack a gun I told him supper was all him. [Linked Image]
This is his first kill in I had to aim, freehanded not just a coon or possum in a trap a few feet away. Also only seen 2 more and they took holes so they weren't moving real well this morning. [Linked Image]
Also made him help skin, let grandpa have a teaching lesson. He did all the work, shot carried and cleaned I was super excited and proud dad this morning. He asked how many more before he gets dumplings

Congrats to both of you. It looks like you skin them the same way I do.

Fine job!! My first kill was a squirrel also.

Gotta start somewhere.

Congratulations how old is the young.man. I understand not having time. Worked 97 .5 hrs away from home two weeks back. Took 5 of my 7 days off off last week and took My boys squirrel hunting every morning..

Sometimes work just has to wait. It will be there later but the kids will be grown and gone later and your father will pass. Take the time now or you will regret it. I think I'm only working 7 days in October and about the same in November. I hammered out the hrs at work the rest of the year the boys get to hunt deer tell they get tired of it. They are 13 and youngest turned 11 today. And yes in out of town working on his birthday again..

Providence he is 11. I'm kind of like my dad, don't hunt until you can shoulder your own gun. Well every gun was to big for him. Well he works with his grandma at auctions, so one auction he bought his own .22, well it was a single shot new England also he could shoulder it and didn't have any sights just a rail for a scope. So this last Christmas I found him a little 4x scope and we sighted it in for him. He has had more interest in shooting here lately. We are also working with a deer rifle he has been bugging me to do that this year as well.

There are tons of youth guns in any configuration you can think of. Guns and shooting anything and everything are my thing so my boys and daughter got youth model .22s at 4 or 5. When they were shooting squirrel with the .22 at 25 yards I figured they were ready for deer. For the boys they both shot their first two each deer at 7. But hunting and shooting are my thing and I put everything else off to work BUT the kids and their shooting get priority. They have .22s shotguns, strait wall public land youth guns, and center fire 243s and 7mm08 all youth guns. Two bows each sling shots and x bows. Bring that young man over to indiana and he can try everything we have out and get a feel for what he likes best. We have a 500 yard range on the farm you all can shoot on. ( warning though most of our rifled have supressors and you and he will like them so it could get a litle more expensive than planed)

It looks like you had an amazing day with 3 generations. And the young man made a good shot with a .22 and you and grandpa got to be a part of it. Man that's outstanding I'm sure grandpa was just as proud of you and your son and beyond happy to be a part of it. My dad doesn't hunt and at this point my boys could take and teach him they know more than most adults. I wish I could get him to tag along. Great job dad you better not miss the window and take him to hunt everything he wants to while he is still interested in hunting and not to buy chasing girls.

Lol well if you weren't so far away cam would love just to shoot
.. he needs practice but however to my surprise for how much he has shot was pretty good.. ya like I said wasn't my ideal day to squirrel hunt but since we had some time I thought I better take it. Also came home and my 7 year old daughter and rode horses with her, that's usually a wife thing but she hadn't felt good so I said let's do this sis. Lol this dad's gonna to be wore out!

My dad's been chopping at the bit, for cam to get his first whatever.... we have been try past 2 years on turkeys but they never worked out for us.
