I’ve only hunted moose once and 2 things come to mind.

Hip boots and they are a lot of dead. Shoot it where you can get it out. You don’t drag them like a deer.

Curious as I wasn’t aware a US resident could hunt moose unguided in Ontario.

Yes you have to buy a tag with a lodge but from there they show you the area and it’s on your own from there when we go up bear hunting they show us some baits they have set up and we do everything from that point on

Just had some family head up there(just south of Wabakimi Provincial park) for the moose opener. Your outfitter should be able to tell you the new cuts and give you a good idea where to head.

Nice time of year, make sure you bring good rain gear, warm clothing but also some lighter stuff. Can still have some warm days every once in awhile then.

Calling with two or more people seems to be the go to method. Make sure to ask the outfitter if they have any boats/canoes stashed in the area, fishing is fantastic up there and still the best way to cover some ground sometimes.

Make sure you know the regulations, they see conservation officers(game wardens) every year. They ship them up from the south for the moose hunt and bring them back down for opening of deer season.

Can't help with your hunt but I wish a successful trip.

Guys been harvesting some nice bulls here. Had a friend get a great bull yesterday morning.
