Does anyone know of some free slow motion snare trapping footage to learn how an animal fits through the snare but gets caught around the neck. I'm looking specifically for squirrel snare footage.

Somewhere I have seen a clip on one of the bush crafters YouTube channel but I have forgotten who it was. I watch quite a bit from Dave Canterbury, Matt Graham, and Corporal Kelly but I don't thing it was any of them.

Snaring concepts in play were horizontal limb installed between 2 active trees and snare height set at chest and so below chin line.

For western red squirrel snaring I prefer 16 lb test stainless steel fishing line as it’s a bit finer than the 24-gage brass wire and more flexible providing quicker loop closing IMO. Loop size of 1 ½ inches preferred but no larger than 1 ¾ inches with height off pole of 1 inch (length of a 22LR cartridge and bullet) being my preference. For other squirrels loop size and height off pole may vary in size.

I looked for the video and I couldn't find it now. Some snowflake prolly got it taken down.

Great post! What do you use for a lock?

no need for a lock if they can never do anything but hang from it

if it were on the ground one night be needed.
