Has a way of messing up a day of deer scouting....

1st encounter = looking out for snakes rest of day...not deer sign...

It looks like a non-venomous banded water snake to me. Reference: https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/WildlifeHabitat/Herps/6825

March 10th of this year, I've seen them crawling all the way up into November. In this part of the country you always have your eyes peeled. You guys down south of me probably lookout for them year around. [Linked Image]

Yeah they are small and so feisty that by the time I was ever that close to one it was putting up a racket.

Your horse will know when there is one on the trail and try to throw you up over its head and past the snake LOL.

Yep, moving good. Saw a big canebrake on the haul road in northeast Texas last week.

Most rattlers I ever caught in one night was when I was in highschool. Caught 17 snakes on a hot windy night in November. I put them all in my dogbox in back of truck and took them to school.
