It's here it's here. Will be taking the boys down to hunt on a 24k acre state forest. The last 2 years they shoot one down there during youth. It's an hour and 15 min drive and they could kill them out back but it's more Fun and challenge to hunt public land. Plus it gets boring to hunt the same place all the time. Waiting on the boys to finish making targets then out to confirm zero. After working enough how so far this year I could take the next 5.5 months off and still average 40 hours for each week!!! I'm ready for some family time in the woods and away from work. Only down side is the temperature and need for speed after the kill.

I'm off a bunch Oct and early Nov. Will hit ky youth if I find a good spot to go, a military refuge yout draw hunt in Oct ky early muzzleloader is an opportunity again if I find a good place . And ther entire time is bow seasion but the boy have not been shooting their boys quite well enough so it will be x bow time. But I only have one x bow. May stop and pick up another one after the hunt in the morning.

It's the most wonderful time of the year. (And only time I cut back on hours@ work. Only worked 65.3 last week and this week.) Kind of makes me feel like a slug cutting back so much.

Good luck to them this weekend. There are a lot of arguments for and against youth season but I say let them hunt. Hope to start taking my grandkids in a couple of years. Greene/Sullivan?

Looks like he needs another year;-)

Boys shot well enough. We have odd cal restrictions on public land so my 13 year old will be using a 357 mag handi rifle with 158 gr xtp over 16 gr of win 296. It's a very impressive combo and killed a bunch over the years. He was shooting a 2" group at 100 yards with it. My 11 year old held about 3.25" at 100 with his 350 legend and 150gr win xp.( should have went with 170gr I think to be sure of a pass through guess I will find out) Good enough. Can't see over 30 yards where we are going most likely under 20.
County limits there are 1 buck and 3 doe. Saw a nice buck there a few weeks back squirrel hunting. Hope he passes in front of one of the boys and runs twords the truck after they shoot him if he some not drop. But typically thae end up in the dry creek at the bottom of the hill away from the truck.

Got her nice and early 30 min before first light. Boys keep falling behind and I keep looking behind me while going around new down trees and brush. I realized I got turned around and had no idea what direction was what. Turned out I was 180° off and was headed back to the truck. Never had that happen before and sure didn't like it. Got set up but not where planed since running behind now and the 11 year old just settled on a tree but can see 2 runs so not a bad spot. Passed a nice rub when walking circles.

Sitting in the tree and the 11 year old ask I'd ls this a problem? YES, that's a problem. His scope was moving. Apparently I didn't check the factory installed scope rail and it's loose. Go figure now when we get home I have to take the scope off tighten it and go check zero wasting more time and ammo. Visibility is 20 yards max so hopefully it will be ok if a deer does walk by before we leave. Have the other boy on the ground watching a funnel where 3 runs cross. Zero deer seen so far here heard other people leaving about 15 min ago.

Got the mount tight shot two shot from bi pid siting at 100. 1/4 left and hols 1/16 away from touching. Didn't want to take the time to fine tune it. It's good enough for now.

Just had one bust us my 11 year old said was larger than the one we saw here squirrel hunting a fee weeks ago. That one was a 120 or so and it was likely the same deer. I didn't see it. No shots yet but it's been a great day for sure.
