Did the Jews in the time of Christ all worship the same way, meaning did God give them a “ rule book” ? Did the Jews in Capernaum worship the same as those in Joppa or on the coast of Bethany or Jerusalem? or did they worship based on where they were or-the personality of the synagogue Rabbi?

By the time of Christ the synagogue had been developed as a product of the Babylonian captivity. They had the Pentatuch and Torah. The Misnah, commentary on the Torah, had been started as well and was being developed.

They also still had the Temple sacrifice practice of the second temple though the levitical line of priesthood had been broken.

Synagogue would've been much as it is today in Orthodox practice. Men only or men and women seperate, readings and discussion of the Torah. Matter of fact the New Testament describes Jesus reading from the Torah in Synagogue.

AD 70 the temple would be razed by Titus and temple practice would end.

The first Christian churches came out of the Synagogue as originally Christianity was merely a sect of Judaism. But the dual issues of adherance to Christ as the Messiah and the inclusion of Gentiles, particularly inclusion without circumcision or adherance to jewish practice, would lead to the separation of Christianity from Judaism.

Again, there are many references to this in the New Testament.

Now that I don’t know. My understanding is that there were different rabbinical schools based on notable rabbis. Paul for intance was a student of Gamaliel. There were also sects within judaism, pharasee vs saducee most notably but also essenes and zealots. Then there is the whole kabala mysticism that I know nothing of.

If I had to guess, I'd say much like christian practice there was a mainstream where different congregations shared a common practice but there were splinter groups as well. But that's just a WAG.

Many times.

They are sold all over Israel especially in the Old City of Jerusalem. All sizes and price ranges. I have a few friends who bought some large ones. The large ones sound awesome. You can get all kinds of tones and volume from them. The smaller ones sound ok in comparison.

I used to try to play them when lived in Jerusalem. I got decent right before I moved back

On thing to remember is.... yes in a sense God gave a rule book Old Testament of basic rules to follow for worship. Now just like any other religion different churches worship similarly but different. Saduzees Pharazyes zealots etc...

You can go to any synagogue today in Israel or America or anywhere and you will still see this happening. Go to Israel and it's clear the various sects of Judaism. One that is hard to determine is the anti-missionary Jews. They persecute any Christian catholic they see. Often times they burn churches beat Christians.

Now that I think on it I really don't know how a jewish service is conducted. I know of the passover seder, a little of a bar mitzvah but not much at all on a typical sabbath service other than the Torah is kept in a special ark and that it is taken out for reading to the congretaion. I also assume there would be a time of prayer and possibly singing.

I'm right there with you, I've never experienceda sabbathservice. I do know the Torah is read a sermon is given prayer and singing all occur and depending on synagogue can last all morning.
Jews especially orthodox will pray at certain times throughout the day in their prayer closet which is cloth over the head and face. Often times certain prayers are said (think prayers like catholicism)

Appreciate the response - what I'm looking for I have not been able to find it ...... yet is how the Jews worshiped in the 1st century - many things have changed since then - on the Christianity side and I am assuming on the Jewish side but I don't know and do not want to make assumptions. For me, it's important to remember that Jesus, his Mother, and his Stepfather were Jews along with the Apostles. Therefore culture of that time period is important to understand. not only culture but the language differences. Therefore I want to read the writings of the men or women who studied under the Apostles.

study a Jewish wedding and you will understand much more about how we as the church are the bride of Christ and it will give you a much deeper understanding of scripture and when Jesus comes for His bride........

The best way to get a good understanding is look at Jesus teachings regarding the scholars.
Also look at the works of Josephus.

Josephus is some interesting reading particularly if you know his back story.

By the time of the siege of Jerusalem he had been granted his freedom adopted Vespasian's surname of Flavius and was serving as Vespasian's son Titus' translator and advisor. Was present to see the fall of Jerusalem with destruction of the Temple and Masada.
