Anyone have a Ruger American ranch rifle? I'm looking at a 350 legend.

With the short heavy bbl I figure it would be a tack driver but looking for first hand experience

Got the 556. Love it! Very accurate with 70gr hand loads and also likes PMC green tips

I really like my ruger American .22. Only problem with it, and I'm not sure if it's the same on the big rifles, is that it doesn't have a bolt lock and the bolt tends to open itself when I have it slinged if I'm not careful.

if your not in a strait wall cartridge state , I have to ask WHY 350 legend?

the Ruger American predator is 2 inches longer in the 308win , still a threaded barrel true it doesn't use AR mags

the 308 Win sending a 180gr bullet 2620 fps puts stuff down and will do it easily at 300 yards

the 350 is by design a short range cartridge intended to have limited range that bullet starts around 1900fps

try a muzzle brake on the 308 it makes the recoil very minimal

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

one way to keep them from opening if you have a long hike , is no round in the chamber , pull the trigger as you lower the bolt handle , then the bolt takes the cocking force to make it open. then toss in the mag and you can have a round quick but keep the bolt from opening as easily

The 150 gr 350 legend win xp list it at over 2300fps. The 170gr barns at over 2200fps

The 1900 fps is about what I get out of a 357 mag withb16 gr of 296 in a rifle.

Yes it's slower than a 308 but much better than you are saying. Why 350 low recoil, low noise, ammo on the shelf when nothing else was, puts deer down fast within its intended range (limited experience of 2 shot during youth season but im very satisfied so far). Few deer are shot over 100 yards around here. Furthest I have shot one was 302 with muzzle loader. But that was because i had a good back stop and was on a walker and limited mobility at the time. Watched that doe go down in the scope. Personally I like a 7mm-08 better than a 308 for deer and would not pick a 350 if not for our limited public cal restrictions but I sure don't feel the kids are under guned and will be just as happy with them hunting with the 350 if they want as the 243 or7/08 when not hunting in a restricted location. Just my personal experience this far

Pretty good idea, appreciate it. Mainly happens when squirrel hunting, but I may use this in the future. I've heard of guys using a heavy duty rubber band setup on them.

I have the Ruger American in .308 and the Ruger Predator in .308. One has a Leupold and the other carries the Thermal. Both guns shoot great and have no issues.
I was looking at the Ranch for a .300BLK but all the reviews I looked at were not favorable. Apparently it was an accuracy issue. I’m not a “dime has to cover a 3 shot group” kind of person, I’ll settle for a nickel or maybe a quarter. But everything I was finding wasn’t even giving me a Silver Dollar, lol.

It is the same with the centerfire Americans. Guided a couple hunters with them, walking around with the gun slung the bolt would get raised up some, and then if they needed to take a quick shot the trigger wouldn't pull because the bolt wasn't all the way down.

Mine is the opposite. Once fired, dry or live, it is way too hard to lift the bolt handle to eject and load another round.
That being stated I refuse to send it back to Ruger as it is far and away the most accurate rifle out of the box I’ve ever known and I’ve known quite a few including some very high grade custom models.

that is why I asked Why? if you have a reason then it makes sense. if you're just being marketed at that 350 is bigger and newer than 308 and your being sold on marketing hype of the new thing, then step back and think about your why more.

like with the kids and public land you have a good reason
just like I own the 300blackout because of a very specific township we hunt.

I went back to check the velocities I used Winchester power points 180gr for both ammo
the 2620 is muzzle on the 308 and I did make the mistake of 1926 being the 50 yard velocity for the 180 gr 350 legend

I like 180gr 308 loads for hunting that is why I used it for comparison, I got tired of not getting a hole out the other side with some rounds I run a muzzle brake and can watch rounds impact in the scope.

that 2620fps 308win falls down to the 50 yard legend velocity at 300 yards the ballistic coefficient is a lot better on the 308

just past 300 yards 350 legend falls sub sonic

the 350L is not a long range gun so if your saying , I had rotator cuff surgery Doc said go real easy on recoil and you want a sub 150 yard gun and never plan to need further than go 350

I like the 308 because with a 200 yard zero it is very forgiving if you were off on your range a little

just know the why , is what I was saying.

The 350 legend is a nice little cartridge. Plenty for deer out to around 150 yards or so. I got one for my daughter a few years ago cuz it's all I could find loads for. 3 deer and counting for her with it with exit holes every time. She likes it better than her 6.5 creed she bought last year. I'm thinking of selling my hard kickers and getting one for myself. Deer don't require much to kill them. I'm at around 120 deer with a rifle and I've used most of the factory cartridges and they all basically do the same thing. Put that bullet where it needs to go and the deer will die. There's not much sense in heavy recoil or getting your ears blown out with a brake.

I have one in 450 bushmaster. Its a real good shooter and this will be the 5th season of use. I took the muzzle brake off right away not needed. This rifle took about forty rounds down the barrel before it really started to shoot really good groups. I scrubbed the bore every 10 shots . It just took awhile to break in but has been great since. only knock is the recoil pad real grabs at my coat when bring it up fast. Good Luck

I have the Ruger in 350 legend. I use it in Indiana when I get the opportunity.

Great caliber for what it does.

Good for kids as well.
