We are still part of the commonwealth to this day.Same as always even when we became the Dominion of Canada in 1867.That was Confederation of the provinces and territories.
Actually for centuries there were 2 Canadas -Upper and Lower Canada.
We had to nip your arrogance a couple times in the past,The Frenchmen in Lower Canada put the run on you in the late 1700s,and the English in upper Canada put the run on you again in the early 1800s After that you learned your lesson and never came north again.
Now there is some Canadian History for you.
There was a mini invasion of Canada by Americans in the 60s,but we let them in.
