You must have a small family lol
I quit fa⅔³ll hunting 10 years ago when our population crashed. Would never miss a fall season prior to that.
It’s a wonderful time to be in the timber. Loved to target longbeards in the fall.
Got to where I felt bad about killing them. If our population would see a substantial increase I’d get back after them in October.
Come spring I show no mercy lol
Hey Clay I've been at this turkey hunting a looong time, I hunted our first spring season in this county a long time back there were 7 Tom's killed that year and I took two of them, a couple years later they opened fall season in this county and I've taken two with my gun every year since not to mention several with archery so I've seen good times and bad times for turkey hunting, years ago when we had a decent conservation dept. They said fall hunting had no effect on the turkey pop. Do I believe it? Yes for the most part, if you allow the old hens to walk both fall and spring (bearded hens) anyway I think the farming practices and the weather plays the biggest role in turkey populations. I hunt young turkeys in the fall because originally the conservation touted (which I believe) that these were the ones that wouldn't make it through the winter. I still kill a few long beards in the fall but only with my bow. So long story short if we get down to kill less than 7 in the spring in this county I'll probably raise my own butterball, but not until.
