What would be the best product to get for aeration for minnow tank? I been using small bubbles but aren't very convenient. I use an 80-gal stock tank I use for a tank.
Would a submersible water fountain pump work better than bubblers or is there something else that would work to get water moving? I don't store over winter trap for my personal use some in spring, summer and fall.
Thanks

Snowy, I bought a pump used for an aquarium and run a couple of 10” air stones for my bait.

You can use a constant light stream of fresh water. But, you will need to have an overflow pipe with a screen on it about 3 inches or so from the top. You don't need a bubbler if you do that. Otherwise, most DNR have aerators they use on lakes that run the possibility of smothering out. When we were in the minnow wholesale business, we used aerators on our minnow tanks on our truck. Check with your local DNR for an aerator to see where you can get one if you choose to go that route.
I have a smaller 40 gallon tank that I run a constant small stream of water in it. It works fine, keeps minnows alive. I don't use it in the winter, though.

If you are storing bait long periods, fresh water is key. Waste will eventually spoil the water and make it toxic. Even a cheap side mount aquarium filtration system that sends the water back into the tank will be a better option than strictly bubbles if that is your only option.

Thanks for the info everyone and I do change water etc. I like this unit you posted up. I think I will try one bubbler for an 80 to 100 gallon tank is not to practical. I did two checks today so far and got about 8 dozen and will check tonight after bow hunting. Thank You!!!

I typically do not change the water but drain it down about 1/3-1/2 and refill it with water I acclimate in 5 gallon buckets. I use a pool skimmer to scoop up stuff from the bottom. Yellow bellies need about one air bubble a day the greatest flathead bait on earth but sure are hard to find around here anymore

I have three-four ponds and 2 lakes with them with-in 10 miles of home. Too bad I can't ever find time to get to the river to use them when its not too high or too low. I have used that tank for several other types of bait fish too, minnows, creek chubs, green sunfish, etc... just got to put a screen over the top so some of them don't jump out.

You can breed a pair in a tank as small as a 100 gallons. Those 330 gallon plastic totes work great. The bullheads just need fed and a few good hiding places to spawn in, like clay flowerpots or small buckets. If you feed the babies, most won't turn canabilistic. One batch of eggs could give you over 2000 fry. They grow really quick. I would get large swarms of baby bullheads in the small plastic lined ponds I made as a kid. Keith

for the price you could even use a basic submersible utility pump . like a sump pump without the float switch https://www.menards.com/main/plumbi...1250/p-1444428713624-c-1489153238832.htmwould increase the flow from a max of 550gph to 2450gph but also pump down to within 1/8th inch of the bottom when you are ready to drain the tank and also suck right from the bottom where the feces settle mount a length of pvc across the back of the tank with some little holes drilled in it so that it sprays at the surface of the water use some hose quick connects to make it so you can disconnect it from the aeration sprayer and use it to drain down the tank then lift the pump and use it to pull from buckets or a barrel you use to condition the water to save lifting and pouring
America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.
