Noticing a lot of large Mullein plants coming up on the edge of our logging road that was put in last year- the seeds must have been in the soil seed bank and emerged after the soil was disrupted. Definitely a lot larger than I'm accustomed to seeing in our area.

They love disturbed soil.

And the leaves make decent toilet paper.

That stuff will dry up poison ivy if you boil the leaves and make a tea, soak a wash cloth in it and apply to the affected area 2 to 3 times a day. When every my son would get poison ivy he always had to get a shot until someone told us about mullein tea

Kindergarten pencil size flower stalks make a fantastic hand drill fire spindle. Hard to beat mullein stalk on pawpaw fireboard. White cedar fireboard works great with mullein also for northerners.

This is an excellent Blan B based on what was in the outhouse... as soon as it freezes, they're getting the eviction notice.

Pick the leaves and dry thoroughly. Grind into a powder for making tea.

It's great for congestion.
