Heck Guss I’ve worked mostly 7 days a week for 35 years and the company managed to lose 30 billion in value and profit since April first

I can’t blame them for asking for a 4 day work week. Anybody who has ever negotiated knows you ask for the moon because the company is going to lowball and when it’s all said and done it will somewhere in the middle. I don’t see why everyone is so upset cause there asking for it. I doubt they ever get it. As the market demand increases for autos overtime will be offered to meet demand, hence 6 and 7 day work weeks. At my plant the guys on shift during one of the weeks only work a 3 day 36 hour week. Then work a 4 day 48 hour week the next.

I have no idea since the buy out what the new company has structured. I do know wer more than doubled their size and they must not know how to run a business since they are no stranger to bankruptcy.

We don't even have to get into being management heavy. Like going 13 months with no midnight shift supervision and geting more coils packed each shift with less hourly people on the floor. But when they got supervision on the crew and their big looks at me ideas you will do things my way droped production by 35% on the crew.

But I believe the out of touch management is a corporation wide issue not a union vs non union issue.

My take is we have a generation of people hiting the workforce that have been told their whole life how special thay are and never experienced failure or disappointment due to their parents hovering over them. Then they got a strong dose of it in college. They enter the workforce with zero experience, a degree, and a first year apprentice mentality that they know everything.

If they get a 4 day work week look for cars, truck and suv to go thru the roof because they want more money can't be happy with 30 a hr. Have to have more . It's that mind set that put on the cheese line!.

I reckon I have been lucky enough to not experience some of the pitfalls you folks speak of. When I joined the corporate world l, I went for entry level in the door to management in 2 1/2 years. There was only 1 manager in the period that was an issue and the company dealt with it in a satisfactory manner.

I dont know about the auto industry but when the RR went to a 4 day work week they saved a ton of money on overtime payout, and most of the workers liked only working 16 days a month.

When my local negotiated for a 4/10 schedule, the company agreed to it and after the trial period they locked it in. They agreed that more work got done in the 4 days then the 5/8’s. Also it was easier for management to plan jobs because two day jobs could be done safely and completed on a 10 hour shift.

Don’t buy one. The price of diesel drops when it ain’t being used, yes?

Ohiowoodchuck, I have been sent to 4 10 hour day jobs and I love them! Would take them days and hours all year. I’ve worked with guys who say 7 12’s doesn’t get any better than that. To each their own but I shy away from those hours at all costs.

I love it. Been on it for 8 years now. It’s a extra day to spend outdoors. Or if there’s not much going on, get all your running/chores done on Friday and at least enjoy two days off. It has came with accepted overtime though. We did work a 60 day straight stretch a year ago.

That's exactly correct. That's why people need to go out on their own and negotiate their own wage. The union strong arms the company for the group. Then you have crappy workers, middle of the road workers, and good workers getting the same wage. Kinda stinks when a slug is making as much as you if your a good worker.

BINGO! As the saying goes.
