What do you use for cable clamps? Preferably something I have around home.

Battery cable, snare cable, winch cable, fence cable?

What use?

Winch cable for skinning coyotes.

Can't help with that as I ditch my coyotes. But if I were buying a winch synthetic rope has alot of appeal to me since it can be spliced since it is rope. That avoids needing separate bits and pieces like clamps or ferrules.

Not sure if that's an option for small winches as might be used on skinning machines.

Ferrules come in many sizes, any hardware store should have the appropriate size for the winch cable you have, and they're inexpensive. Don't even need a crimper, just whack them closed with a hammer.

I run ferrules and have a crimper but for what you have laying around?
You can use Wire Rope Clips, either way I would use a thimble for sure
