It’s a good feeling isn’t it, with all the crop under roof now you can relax.

What does your sheller look like? Or are you trying to keep it as a trade secret?

They look great. BTW, I'm just finishing up today my quince harvest. About the same money as your pecan harvest off of 150 trees.

Some years ago I picked up some pecans I saw on the roadside in western Missouri and planted some back here in Oregon (1986). Got a couple of big trees but never any nuts. Even if they got pollinated I doubt we have the heat units to mature them here.

A lot of landowners here are converting pines to pecans. Even some of the larger plantations have groves and specific pecan managers. The billionaire that owns the plantation my son works at told him to buy 50ac, clear it and plant pecan trees. That was the best investment he could recommend.

Don’t mind telling you. I run one of the bigger Nut Busters that I modified some to suit my operation. Shells a large amount very quickly. Most crackers are maxed out at 55 nuts per minute. After modifying and another trick or two I can run about a hundred pounds shelled out in 15 minutes. That equates out to a couple hundred nuts per minute.

Nice !!!

Being a maintenance person I like watching machines operate. I watched the crackers at Dukes when stopped there for a visit. They would capture a nut and it was indexed so they were all hit on the ends a combination spring and air I assume but wasn't afforded a peek inside for what made em tick. They appeared to be old so figure is a tried and true method though never seen a method that can't be improved.
