My wife knits wool mittens, then felts them to make them very thick. Before felting they are about 2x regular size. As she felts them, they shrink, thicken up and become very dense. She then knits a regular cuff on them. I wear them while trapping, hunting and working outside when I don't need finger dexterity.

I got seal skin gauntlets for Christmas last year. Inside is sheared sheep wool. Great for holding onto steel handles at -30. Removable liners.
Crazy warm.

Alpaca wool is amazing stuff I have a few hats my wife knit me from it

gloves I typically get the USGI rag wool liners I was getting the for about $7 a pair at the army navy

wash them in woolite is fine but dry them on a rack or line

fox river makes good liners also not as scratchy as the USGI
https://foxsox.com/collections/mens-handwear

for deer hunting I found suede shells at an old sporting good store he had found a box of them in the store room and put some out
just a oversized leather glove big enough to get a set of wool liners in I bought a couple pair and they are great when I do need to move finegrs get a trigger ect

Ness , I have a pair of those GI arctic mits also , I wish I could find them a little larger it is a squeeze getting my hands with liners in them but the concept is great and the ability to use the trigger finger is nice , when your not using the trigger finger you get it back with the rest of the fingers to keep it warm.

I wish more places made a something similar , finding good cold weather gear is hard everyone wants to sew it of synthetics and nylon shells

but you need gear that breaths when you get squeaky snow cold you need to get rid of that moisture not trap it

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

What Nessie said! I have used those for years. Watch for them at the guys who sell army surplus stuff. Just gave a pair to my son for winter camping.

When moving snow around I also sometimes wear elk hide choppers with good wool liners.

Snowy, my wife Patrice had a pair of mittens made at Wildthings here in Wisconsin and if yer hands get cold in them
you probably should reconsider what you are doing outside. Tthey are beaver on the outside and muskrat on the inside.
They are oversized and have a leather thong connecting them so with a shrug of the shoulders they are off and she has
a thin pair of gloves underneath, ready to shoot. They are for hunting out of a stand in cold weather or ice fishing.

I almost cut an index finger off with a SKILL SAW. That finger nearly freezes during deer season. It gets so cold, it hurts. I have gloves and a muff I wear around my neck. Think I have got to keep my core warmer to prevent blood vessel constriction at my extremities.

Got that advice on Trapperman from other injured sportsmen.

I've got a couple pairs of the army mittens with wool liners but mine have the first finger for shooting. Fur is really hard to beat as far as warmth

Any warm gloves or mittens that are warm, are a pain for me hunting dogs in the winter, cumber some and in the way when you need to move quickly.

I went to battery gloves, 3 heat control, thin just like nice hunting gloves, fit on the trigger no taking off, I use rechargeable battery's, rarely have them set past medium in my winters here in Utah, yea they might be as cold as others but when cold is cold there isn't any argument about where you are !

Several different brands on the net, all you have to do is shop for them I have two pairs one has the wire one top of the hands and wrist the other pair is a bit heavier but the wire is under the fingers and in the palm, use these when another is shooting and I am running my vid camera

Some say battery gloves are junk probably because they bought cheap, both my pairs cost over a 100 bucks a pair but I don't
complain about the cold any more !!

What's your comfort level worth to you ??

Thanks everyone for the recommendations. Fantastic lived advice. I'll let you know what I get but fur would be something I would like to try.

My warmest are a heavy leather chopper mitten with an added wool insert mitten inside
Couple years ago I ordered what were supposed to be the warmest gloves made, I went 300 yards on my ATV in 10-20° weather, my fingers were so cold and painful I had to stop, put on my old wore out insulated gloves to warm my fingers!
What a joke

Buffalo Wool Co gloves made of 100% bison wool are amazingly warm, even when wet. They say the only thing warmer is musk ox wool and that is crazy expensive.

Yes, it is. My wife has knit some projects with it. Last I remember she paid $100/oz.

When it is really cold I will run a set of merino wool liner gloves while using a pair of the deer hide mittens. I will often get those toe warmers with the adhesive on one side and stick them on the inside of the mitten on the top. That way if you do try to use your hands with the mittens on the toe warmer is not within your grip. Although if you have to drop the mittens to set a trap or something else and your hands start to freeze you can put them back inside the mittens that are continuously warm due to the toe warmer in them.
