Nice catch Beav! That's pretty funny. I had a slow day today with only 1 coyote and that was the only action on my line. Not sure was caused the lack of movement.

Caught 7 rats today and had my Beaver snare knocked down. Then I set up the other park location.

The rats are just about a week to 10 days away from being prime. There close but a little woolly around the hips.

2 raccoons and a big possum on the little line by the house this morning. Seemed to move last night.

Had a nice double on coyote this morning. Still pretty slow with the warm weather.

The fur is looking better than it did last Sunday on my first check. I'm sure they'll look much better by mid-November but they're not as bad as the price will be, lol.

Ended up with 42 rats off of 2 jobs. The rats are about 10 days from being prime.
I have 2 of those Comstock beaver live traps out and so far have not caught any beaver. But did catch a big boar coon this morning In one. It wasn't worth skinning didn't have a straight guard hair on It. So It's running free In Dane county
Got another rat job starting on the 25th. That's a 3 check job and then It's time to hunt some speedy beef.

Heading up today- The 10-day forecast looks punishing- it must be trapping season!
My focus will be on filling my cat tag and coyotes on my land, I'm trapping a cranberry marsh for rats and nuisance beaver on two other properties. Trapping, Duck Hunting, Musky Fishing and Bow Hunting- should be a good couple of weeks.

Our season opens Saturday and based on the forecast, we should be froze up by Monday. They are talking a potential BIG snowstorm over the weekend too.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I pulled my coyote line today. The weather will make most of my farms inaccessable. I'll set after the weather strainghtens out. Good luck all.

We are finally getting rain!! Now rivers are up with potentially 1-2 inches more so river trapping for me will not be in the cards. Only 1 marsh that can be canoed for rats. Will be a later start, but that i okay. Will see how fields will be for the 4-wheeler dry line first weekend in November.

Really happy I pulled my coyotes sets yesterday. We've had about 2.5" of rain already so it will take some time before the fields are accessable.

I traveled to a large, mostly public land flowage in Wisconsin's northern zone for the opening of muskrat season
last Saturday morning. I left the Jon Boat at home and put out about 40 sets along various Road accessible shorelines for a one night soak only . Some of the usual hardcore rat trappers were present And had most of the houses set up by the time I arrived right after daylight. Most of my sets were feedbed, toilets, and a few dens and houses. Beaver Bill accompanied me on Sunday checking traps. He said he needed the exercise and wanted to learn how not to trap muskrats. About midday Bill made a very astute observation about my rat trapping abilities after noticing rat droppings on the pan of a unsnapped trap. My version of this odd occurrence is that the muskrat read the name on the Trap tag and it scared the crap out of it.. Anyway, it was a nice day and ended up with 22 rats.

Scouted the 1 marsh I can trap near me today. 3 years ago I could paddle across the trail that separates the two sections. (This was during higher than normal rainfall for 2 years. Today the water level is 3.5 to 3 feet below that level with a lot of the mud flats visible and making it difficult in many places to get to the edges. Rat sign similar to past 3-5 years but much more concentrated with some areas one can not set up.
Our granddaughter runs xcountry and both our girls and boys teams qualified to run at the state meet Saturday at WI Rapids. I will take that day off from trapping to enjoy urging on our teams.

Nuisance trapping in a Cranberry Marsh, set a few locations on Tuesday but thunderstorms and heavy rain drove me out, I set heavy yesterday. I met with the owner he had some beaver issues and I made one set where there wasn’t otter activity, pulled this guy out of the pump station yesterday. I trap this location in the spring and before freeze up, spring is mostly colony traps and floats- the water level fluctuates dramatically. A lot of it I can trap as a conventional marsh but in the fall they move between the lake, dikes and bulkheads- I run a lot of Sudden Valley posts, one is poplar bud oil and one with a rat call. Also set ADC beaver at another location yesterday. Another washout today and I’ll make canine/cat sets over the weekend. Here’s a couple pics of set locations.
