Those used to be named squaw fish. "Squaw" is the Algonquian word for "woman". Woke white people, who didn't know that squaw is from a Native American language, decided squaw was derogatory and had the name of the fish changed.

It's considered wrong to use the word "squaw" anymore at all, It's insane that politically correct white people are offended by people using a Native American word, Native Americans used to designate Native American woman, the same way Native Americans did.

We are seeing the same thing done by liberals to the English word "woman", when they say it can't be defined.

Was a long article in how the power companies were to distribute their record profits from the change in the salmon population and how it effected the people......seems only 2% is going back to them. I bet this payment is on those ledgers.

this program has been in place for as long a i have fished the Columbia. Guessing 30 or more years.
The problem is the squaw fish eat the fry as they exit the fish ladder from the rearing ground up river.
Million were spend 20? year ago to install a fish tube that dumped the fry a good ways from the spill way.

It has been a long battle in the PNW over water vs fish

Record returns on the Columbia this year

What record returns? The only fish I have heard of increasing numbers are introduced and trash fish.

The guys making the big money are chasing these fish 7 days a week.In wa state I met 6 different guys at a dam launch site that fish particular areas at different times all thru the season moving from the lower river to the upper river all the way up to and including the snake river.I haven't caught a tagged fish but 2 of my friends that chase them a month out of the year have gotten multiple tagged fish. These guys fish every night after work for at least 6-8 hours. The most I made in a season was 200 bucks. These were just by catchs as I was fishing cat fish, you just register the day before your gonna fish and the next day turn in any you catch and at the end of the season you get a check.
