The beaver have been hit hard here by the paper company in the last couple of weeks. In all my travels today I saw 2 rat houses. That was it! I got probably a dozen rat sets in, just enough to scratch the itch. The big flowage I hoped to take a pile of beaver out of had skim ice on it this afternoon so it only got 3 sets. I never even drug the boat into it.

I set up 2 good Beaver spots.

I will look for the picture of 12 beaver later today then.

My beaver gear is right handy and quick to load, but, now in the aftermath of 5" of snow that's half level now, and 12 above this morning....I'll continue with the great struggle of putting things away and making my place shipshape for winter. Every trap, stake and related gear is acccounted for and in a place where I can get at it. I'll let it ice up now and put the boat away.

Canadian border still waters will freeze up now.

It is 17 here right now and will drop at sunrise. I think I better throw the ice chisel in today and will plan on pulling traps from still water. It isn't going to get above freezing for a few more days.

19 degrees this morning and windy and I am not looking forward to pulling the few sets I foolishly made yesterday. I had to pour hot water over my outboard motor throttle yesterday to get it to move. I quit making sets yesterday when I saw ice in areas I intended to set and it was making ice where I did set so I quit. I never should have started. Gonna be cold out there if I can get the motor started.

Easily another two weeks of boatable water in central MN, except the small small water.

Do you guys look at weather forecasts? I do.

Looks like things are going to warm up a bit the end of the week but don't think it will be enough to make much of a difference. I know one set will be froze up this morning others are in moving water. Hope things moved before the ice set in.

How do you get to those spots without breaking ice? Creeks, yes but on lakes and ponds?

Jet packs is what I use.

1 set collected an average size beaver today. Others froze up.

Same here so I pulled the few I had out.

I haven't taken a pill of ANY kind in probably 5-6 years. If whiskey can't fix it then I just have to deal with it.

Wait a while until you got about an inch of good ice.
Best time to trap beaver,can walk all over the place and spot the bubble trails.Only need a spud for an inch of ice.

All of mine that were exposed froze up this morning. Stupid, I knew it was going down to -10C overnight. They still punched a hole through between sets. It’s supposed to stay at -10c over night for the next week. Might luck out and actually see the air bubbles.
