I've carried a 12 gauge all my life for pheasants. Used to carry a pump now I carry an O/U. At camp last week we did a lot of grouse and woodcock hunting, I carry a 20 gauge O/U for that.

I got tired of switching shells in my hunting vest every time we'd come back to camp from grouse hunting then head out to pheasant hunt. So I decided to carry the twenty for pheasant. I had some older high-brass # 6's and # 4's I wanted to use up anyhow.

I was surprised how well that little twenty dropped those cockbirds. I may never carry my twelve gauge again for upland game.

28 gauge is next level IMO.

Eh...wot?

No, I was using a Berretta A-300 Ultimate 20 gauge.

Yes PA had a bounty on some predators I think it was removed from all species in PA in the early 60's

I haven't shot a 12 at anything in a lot of years except coyotes. The smaller gauges are just more fun for me, lighter to carry too. I've shot more pheasants with a .410 than any other gun since probably the 1980's. 3" 7 1/2 is the best choice for them in my experience. I'm fairly new to the .28 but it's done all i have asked of it. I was shooting Fiocchi Golden Pheasant 3" #5's this weekend. They are pretty much the same as your .20 with 2 3/4" high brass. There is actually 1 1/16 oz of shot in them. Brownells had a good deal on them when I stopped there last week so I was anxious to try them out. lol
