Water cops made them illegal here.I used to throw a 7 footer I believe and you probably want to start with that size or maybe a 6 footer. The mono ones look more user friendly than the nylon one I have.

Maybe I’m wrong on size I’ll see if I can find it in the morning and report back.

I think the ones I use are 3/8" mesh. That's fine with me as for catfishing I'm not interested on anything under 3" or so long. I know I can see a lot of smaller minnows escape out through the mesh in the net. A lot of the minnows caught are 'gilled'. I have to work their gills out of the net.

I didn't think they were legal in Minnesota

I know one thing, it takes a lot of practice and a little luck to properly throw one. Apparently, I do not possess either the patience or knack to make it work.

Make sure that whatever you buy has lead weights. The cheapo environment-friendly ones don't sink fast enough.

I had to practice out in the flat grass in my yard but once you got it you got it. I'm not sure if it's like riding a bike though, I think I'd need a few more practice throws before I hit the water since its been probably 20+ years ago.

How do the Asian fishermen get by? They are always tossing them here to collect bait.

Often it is. We saw them with a grinder on a picnic grinding tiny bluegills, guts, feathers and all then making them into patties and grilling them to eat.

… no idea where they live.. but if there’s a spillway anywhere..they show up on the weekends

… looks like the beginning of a Rambo movie down there sometimes

Used a mono 6' "bait net" to catch small mullet which I sold for Fluke bait, it even worked for full size bunkers in 6' of water if they are densely schooled, Throw it a thousand times and you'll figure it out... grin

Thanks. Sounds like that's the best bet. Ever use that size for shrimp?
