Any idea on the vintage of this guy?- it's in rough shape but a good mantel piece.

That looks like my H. Piper double. A 12ga. & 9.6 rifle, called a Cape gun.

I'm sure hope it's worth $50... if not -the Flail I got with it might cover my irrational exuberance. wink

well I have to admit I have a huge lack of info on double guns I never owned one or got into them.

shot a few

definitely old but post 1889 as Hunter arms and the Fulton plant were made in 1889 to produce the LC smith shotguns
https://www.americanrifleman.org/content/l-c-smith-shotguns/

in 1934 the discontinued the hammer gun

in 1918 the hammer guns started getting serial numbers

so by marking 1889 to 1934 were the years it could have those markings and be a hammer gun if it has no SN# then 1889 to 1917

they continued using the hunter arms name on barrels till 1945 but only hammer guns were marked L.C.Smith after about 1917

https://lcsca.clubexpress.com/content.aspx?page_id=22&club_id=43784&module_id=246438

well how did I do for my miniscule knowledge of double guns , yes I had to look stuff up.

and I think most any gun is worth 50 in todays economy

ADC should be along to offer to double your money any minute.

also if it has a SN# it would have steel vs Damascus barrels which would make it safer to shoot

I do love SxS shotguns but I only buy users. I can’t afford guns just to look at as bad as I wish I could.

I've had a love for them for forty years or more and buy the best I can on a blue-collar budget. You can drop $50,000 every day of the week on a quality double. You can drop a lot more than that if you have the coin.
Mine are modest but good.

I have a little experience with those. That one looks like a shooter in my opinion. Kirk Merrington https://www.merringtonfineguns.com can go over it for you if you think you want to shoot it and he can tell you what to use in it and even repair it if need be. I had a Parker 10 ga that looked similar to the that one you showed and it was and worked beautifully. I have a Baker 12 ga I use often which is similar to that shotgun but hammerless. Mine has damascus barrels on it and it was made in 1905. This was my great grandpa's shotgun.

This is him with his dog ''Bess'' about 1920 with his shotgun.

This was early October this year. Same shotgun. Still shoots great.

I wish I could say I got any family guns passed to me
my moms dad had 1 gun an Ithaca M37 my uncle has it I was way down the order of succession with that gun
my dads dad had 0 guns
my great uncle my dad's , mom's little brother is where we both learned to hunt. his guns all went to his son.
he was also a M37 user

so I bought a M37 almost identical to each of their guns for myself

I would like my dad to stay living a long time and keep his guns I am doing just fine with what I have I also have an 870 that was his go to gun for many years.

as you can see I come from a line of pump gun users and it may show in my selection of shotguns.

My great-grandfather Fred Emerson Space market hunted grouse with the exact same LC Smith. My father used it to kill his first buck on December 22, 1941 at the age of 13. His grandmother gave him the gun the day before, 2 hours after his grandfather Fred Emerson died. Guess it means nothing to anybody else but me but it is neat to remember family history. The LC Smith is now on display in the Space Farms museum.

definitely a great story

I have now been able to see a few of the boats my Great Great grandfather built there is one still in operation as a fish tug. I re-roofed the house he built and have done other work on it over the years.

I have a few of both my grandfathers tools , one was a mason and farmer , the other a landlord and juice delivery company owner/operator.

got to work with both of them when I was a kid.

Good info for sure- it has no serial # so it’s definitely the older style. I’m bow hunting now and I’ll post a pic of the flail that came as a package deal- it’s also cool.
