With the drones and loitering munitions on today's battlefield, they're all death traps.
The Russians have been upgrading their Lancet loitering killer drone over time during the war. I don't know when they added the AI component to recognize the specific shapes of different vehicles but they now have added a Lidar aspect to the newest version that helps the system "see" the added "bbq grill" screening that have been added to the AFU armor to try to detonate the drone before it actually hits the vehicle. The Lidar helps the Lancet detonate 3-5 meters away and still send its super heated "plasma" penetrating cone to hit the vehicle. The Ukies (will NATO help) have upped their EW that has caused some Lancets to fall short of the targets but the Rus seem to be countering it by letting the AI take over at a certain distance, thus letting the munition not to need outside guidance at the point.
The U.S. military didn't think drones, in various modes, were cool enough (or make the MIC as much money) so basically did little with the technology before 2022 (the Switchblade series haven't done much in Ukraine from what I've seen). The Ukies are paying for this "uncoolness" now. I'm seeing more and more videos of cheap FPV drones carrying explosives flying into AFU trench bunkers and shooting positions. The Ukrainians also have FPV kamikaze drones or ones that drop mortar shells onto to foxholes but just not as many as the Russians do. This is the most imaged war to date, almost everything is observed unless its foggy or really low overcast.
