Bullet placement in an Animal is probably the issue.

When you put two shots 1/4" apart through the lungs and there is almost no blood trail and the entrance and exit wounds can be plugged up with a pinky, there is a problem with the bullets.

Like 2 poor mentioned I too have a soft spot for the .284 win then the .270 then the .30-06 , the .25-06 and .6mm are right in there as well .
Hornady interloc bullets are a favorite of mine also as are the Serria 140 gr bthp for the .270 which worked well on deer and buffalo .

You're friend along the snare line .

Don't you shoot a 284?

330, I can shoot and all my guns can shoot so yes I know about bullet placement. The Hornady will go where I want them but once they're there they are junk. I'm glad you like them and I'll have a look if you want more you can have them. I refuse to shoot any Hornady product knowingly. Nothing but junk imo

I know this thread is about deer but I like to be prepared for a elk when I'm hunting deer and my experience is the Hornady do not penetrate. When I shoot elk I go thru the shoulders. Barnes works for this Hornady don't.

I'm only basing my experience on deer and Black bear so I understand where you are coming from.

50 yrs ago I was with a cousin when he shot a deer with a soft point out of a 30-30. The bullet hit a twig about 3/8" in diameter and stayed right on track and killed the deer. I was impressed. Maybe all calibers will do the same with the same bullet. ? Or could it be that the turdy turdy is slower and doesn't deflect as badly?

Life ain't supposed to be easy.
