I can tell you that those 180 grain XTP's disappear almost as fast as them 10mm sockets and the former have about twice the horsepower of a 45 APC in the same frame size pistol. It just makes sense to me

That is the bullet I was thinking about using.

Better than 45 LC. You can find 10mm everywhere these days

I'd say more like cult status with it's own fan base. Mostly hog hunters and those pipe dreaming of going to Alaska.

Not necessarily true. It's probably the most popular carry caliber here in the West in bear country. We don't have to go to Alaska to run into big bears and other critters that want to kill us. Way easier to shoot than a 44 mag, and not as heavy to carry. It makes a lot of sense in this country

I don't know, I think my 44 mag Ultralight is lighter than an 10mm made. And since it fits me well it is comfortable to shoot.

I will agree if I was an automatic guy I would probably choose the 10mm though. I've always like the 1911s and 45 but a 45 acp is really kind of an anemic round for anything bigger than a man.

Carry a glock gen 1 sf in the 10mm. Changed out to stiffer springs so recoil isn't very bad. Haven't killed anything with it yet but would not think twice about shooting a deer with it. Very accurate and with the 180s very manageable. I run the 200 gr Keith style hard cast from HME or Buffalo bore for bear defense. Packed my Ruger 3 screw 44 or vequero 44 for a long time but like how the Glock carries in my chest harness and like the idea of 16 rounds while I have my kids out with me.

For anyone not familiar, I believe the 10mm is close to the .41 mag in ballistics.

The 10mm has depending on the loading between 750 and 1000 ft / lb compared with the 45APC between 350 and 550 ft/lb ... As an popular example, the glock 20 nd 21 are pretty much identical pistols. one chambered in 10mm the other in 45 APC ..... take yer pick

I have a 10mm socket in a metal ammo can that I welded shut. Just so I can say that I have one of those things.

Yep, nice little hog caliber, and bear.
I like shooting the 10MM as well as my 41 mag and 44 mag.
It is popular for big bear defense, as stated , out West.
Ammo is available but we handload.

I have a Springfield XDM and a Rock island 1911 in 10mm, can’t really say how it would perform on deer but I have shot a few wild pigs with the XDM and it has performed as good as you could hope for with none going more then a few yards

I would have no problem using it one for deer

A 180 grain Hornady XTP over a max dose of Longshot is a pretty good recipe to get things to the kitchen. I used to be able to get 200 grain XTP's but have not seen them in ages .
