If you ain't figured it out yet, the easiest way to set those #11s are over your leg. Put the body of the trap on your thigh above the knee a bit, with both springs hanging over the side of your leg. Push down on the springs and usually the jaws'll flap open. Use the thumb and index finger of your left hand to get the trap held open then use your right hand to set it once you're holding it open with your left. Hope that kind of makes sense, lol.

Just give me one thing, that I can hold on to. To believe in this livin' is just a hard way to go.

The “preferred” method is covered in most State trapping courses.

A pair of mechanics gloves will make that whoops a lot less painful.

I haven’t used these but I’ve gotten a bunch at garage sales (usually never pass up cheap trapping stuff, even if I don’t need it).
That works pretty slick!

Thanks. I do the coilsprings with my hands too. Up to a #3 anyway...

You'll get pinched again. Happens to everybody once in a while. I push the springs down with my knees to get loose. Managed to get both hands in a 220 body grip once. Woulda had to drive to get help for that one. My at the time 12 y/o son was with me. Had to wait for him to quit laughing to get me out.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)
