Hey beaver guys, if you've sold any castor this season I would like to hear about prices. Thanks in advance.

I've been buying it at $32 per pound for clean dry castor.

Yes I bought a bunch at $32.00 per pound a month ago too.

Fun stuff to work with 300 lbs made 150 pounds of pure powder.

Did you buy that all from one source John? That's a bunch!

So the rest of it is the outer membrane then?

One source a dealer that just had two much and wanted to cut his loses when market started falling on Castor. I did the same thing years ago with mink glands buying crazy amounts at great prices. Most animal glands can be preserved for many years. I have looked at artificial glands and no way can they in my opinion replace such things as beaver castor and mink glands.

If you ship them in onion sacks and they drip through to the cardboard your shipment will be thrown into a hazmat bin and it's gone for good. That's been my experience with USPS anyway.

When I have castors shipped to me, I ask that they are put in two or three zip-lock bags in a priority mail box with absorbent material lining the box and ship on a Monday. A short time in plastic doesn't hurt a thing. When i freeze castor, I freeze it in plastic. You don't want to store them at room temperature in plastic.

DObbins, you have talked about the regional difference in your lure manufacturing,
Are you still using only castor from the south?

That's correct. I only use castor from the southeast states. That's from East Texas up through Virginia.

Perfect,

When a formulator (Bobby J) starts using something different in the lure that has been a longstanding favorite,,,,,,,,,you/ I can smell the difference.

Looking at some jars that I asked Ace to sign before he sent in 08,,,,,,Love that John is the tradition.

And John???? can I get a Mattress made from that stuff?

Thats why the Bob Wilson's GREEN Beaver lure works so well in the north!

That's exactly right. Backbreaker made with northern castor smells nothing like Backbreaker. Even though it's made with southern castor, Backbreaker works everywhere from Alaska to Maine to Florida and all points in between.

I remember Paul one time talking beaver trapping lure with me and a few others and he said to him Northern castor is TOO mild, but said Jackie Malone's South Alabama castor is "NASTY"

LOL, I was just giving Jackie a hard time. The Alabama castor is good stuff. The northern stuff isn't exactly mild, but to me it has a medicine type of odor.
