My dad and I got these marten and ermine a few days ago. The ermine we catch them in box sets but the marten I catch on marten poles.

Are you required to elevate Marten sets ? Or is it to avoid fur damage or deep snow ?

We are not required but we do it to keep the voles and shrews from chewing up the fur.

I just set my first traps of the season today. I will post pictures tomorrow if I catch anything.

How long between Marten checks ?

Usually once a week but if it is warmer we usually check it every few days. My family and I went out to mark some muskrat pushups and saw some wolverine tracks. They seemed pretty fresh so we're going to trap him in January.

We are required to check every 3rd calendar day. So if I check Sunday I need to check again Wednesday. With shorter times between checks I don’t elevate my sets. I have only experienced vole damage once. Here in MN we don’t have Wolverines but do have Fisher.

Caught an otter but that's all I have got. Have 4 coyote traps out and had one dug up.

Today we got four marten, one ermine, and one rabbit. The rabbit I got hunting.

I caught a few Otter couple weeks back !

Nice! I don't trap Otter, but I've never seen more than 1 caught in a trap. Do they travel side by side like that often?

Nice otter! I never trapped otter before.

Truth be told Otter are nearly always traveling as a group. 2,3,4 traveling together. We are allowed 4 per year here in MN.

Alaskan Marten seem to be larger then here in MN !

But there not as big as fisher though.

I caught a possum today. It's also my first catch of the season.

Nice possum. How much do they usually go for?

We dont keep possums because the fur buyer usually doesn't buy them but if he does they go for 50 cents

I caught a coyote and 2 raccoons today.

Not really, if we have a big line in we get up to 80 marten.

We also caught a squirrel.

Today we got a 1 marten, 1 squirrel, 2 phtarmigan, and 1 sharp tail grouse.
