I have caught a few here. I hate skinning the stinking things. The last one I caught was Top Lot at NAFA for $155 as I recall. I caught it in December and it smelled like it had been living in a skunk den. Rank!

The Badger market appears to be strong, they'll be up substantially in price this year mainly because they're a product of coyote trapping. That's gonna lead to a significant shortage of in demand Badgers.
Is the market strong within the US or to other countries? I always feel like fur isn’t in demand in the US yet the price of tanned furs or products like blankets, etc is still very high.

This was before I had a proper fleshing board. Nightmare.

All the weasels are feisty aren’t they?!? Fisher are especially cuddly and will roll right over to have their belly rubbed on.

They are late to prime up keep that in mind but that’s not always the case I’ve had nice ones in the winter and fair ones in the spring. They leave a lot of sign just look for the dark mound in the highest part of the area.

I generally catch 2 or three while coyote trapping but would like to target them if possible. I have seen more badger activity this fall than ever before and I am assuming it is because we have had an explosion of pocket gophers. Any tips on targeting them specifically would be appreciated. Wish I could help! But I DO know that they used to hunt them with dachshunds!!! Their goofy little short bowed legs helped them dig them out. Wouldn’t recommend it tho!!!! Had to be one tough wiener dog to go after a big brute

Yes a warm and cuddly creature that smells like lavender if I remember right. LOL And they have such a gentle disposition. It is a wonder that there is not a bigger live market for them as pets for the elderly blue haired ladies.

I made that for a friend in our muzzleloader gun club. His daughter in law promptly claimed it as hers. He has since moved to North Carolina, so he doesn't miss it too much. I have a couple that are tanned with feet on...I'd like to make a hat, and integrate the feet, just haven't got the cahonies to do it yet. I also have a scrub coon that I tanned to make a practice hat out of before I tackle the 1st one my son trapped...really don't want to screw that one up!

Coon are good to experiment with, not terribly expensive and make a good looking hat.

Diggers are fun!!
You would think that prairie that's been converted to 85-90% cropland would have many badgers left but I think they've adapted to living in the grassy ditches of the township roads. And as Law Dog showed, they can make small bomb craters of dug soil all the way around a stake. I was so embarrassed by one digger's crater that I went back the next day with a big scoop shovel to try and even things out before it froze for the winter.

Catching badgers always made me glad I used drags. On open ground, there were lots of mini crop circles but not many big excavations.

Trapped fifty or so, shot two or three, and chased down and smacked several with a spade. Too old to chase em anymore. Pretty easy to get permission to trap diggers around here, as well as getting calls to remove them from people's yards. Charlie

Had a lot of them around as a kid and caught a few of them. Then they disappeared for awhile but recently started a come back. Now I usually catch 1 or 2 incidentals a year in coyote sets unless I target them specifically. Cool critter in their own right.

Jordy and I both feel that Badger is one of the nicest and prettiest pelts! We don’t have them in Pennsylvania. Does anyone trap them?? I never hear folks post about them! Not around my place, but 45min west where the fields really start to open up, I pulled a fried one off a transformer. Fur was burnt pretty good, but I kept the skull to clean up later this spring.
