Just a little update. Been pretty busy with gun deer season here in WI. Got the coat body completely assembled and the collar added. I had to draft a collar pattern, I've never done a collar on the coat pattern I was using. I'm happy with how it turned out.

k snow We often our own worst critic when making something that has a special meaning to us !You aid it is your first attempt at making a jacket with a collar attached to it As such you will learn some things that you like more if and when you have a go at making another But none of that takes away the result you have gotten on your first attempt You are more than likely the only one that sees what you thinks of as flaws I will say that I would not usually wear something like that But if I had one given to me I bet I would change my tune in a heart beat Very nice work I am not asking for one just saying give your self credit It has been well earned

I appreciate all your comments guys. This is definitely a labor of love. Lots and lots of hours. Lots of new things to learn. Yep, I am definitely my own worst critic, I can pick out every little stitch that isn't 100% perfect, but I am happy with the project. Its been on my to do list for a long time, almost a bucket list type project for me.

very nice , is that pillow ticking for the liner ?

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Not pillow ticking, just a cotton stripe that I had in a bin of period correct fabrics. Traditional ticking would be blue and white stripes, and almost a canvas type weave. I have yards of that for patching in my flintlocks.

That's cool. Buckskin is a great material but tricky to work with.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Definitely different than cloth. Some things are easier, some things are more difficult, some things are just different.
Don't need seam allowances if using whip stitching, don't need to hen raw edges, but can't really pin pieces together.
And you have to plan for the different thicknesses and stretch.
It's been a learning experience for sure.

It all started when I was 10 or so in Boy Scouts. Got really interested in Indian Lore. That evolved into primitive skills and powwow dancing. Then when I took up muzzleloaders, I got into American frontier history.

I learned most everything from books. Didn't have internet when I first started. Primitive Archer magazine was a great resource in its day.

It's been a great journey so far. I'll help anyone with anything. I'm not really an expert at any one thing. But I love to help people learn.

And a bit more progress. Got one sleeve set in, with the piece for the shoulder fringe. One more sleeve to go, then the linings in the sleeves and trimming the cuffs. Starting to really take shape.
