I received this email today. Considering he's in Florida, I don't know what to advise him to do. Any ideas, besides shooting on sight?

"We have a beaver setting up house in our boathouse. I’ve read the thread from 2018. Are there any further suggestions since then?
We had an otter using it a few years ago as a toilet. I kept cleaning up the area and put rags soaked in Pinesol over the places they went. It finally discouraged them. Unfortunately we are in Florida and this is happening at our summer home. Our son will be there this weekend. Any suggestions would be appreciated."

Don't know florida regs but hanging snares underneath on the pilings has turned the trick for me on jobs like that. I've rigged up wooden frames to hang 330s as well. Basically a 2x cross with screw heads left proud that the 330 pinches then a couple "legs" to lower it into position with the legs screwed to the dock.

I'd also go looking for nearby sets. One memorable one they stacked sticks at the floating dock/boathouse but were coming ashore up the boat ramp. The rest of the property and point had a three foot seawall. So I set a cage each side of the ramp where the seawall turned in. Piled driftwood in the center of the ramp to funnel them in. Caught all but one in the cages. The other was in the 330 I had rigged up as described.

I've caught others in bottom edge sets along seawall with fencing sticks to funnel them.

Never done it but I bet a floating 330 set would work.

Thanks Warrior. I'm pretty sure they can't use foothold traps, but I don't know about the laws on body grips and snares. That's why I didn't want to give advice that may get them in trouble. Hopefully someone who is familiar with the laws in Florida will chime in.

Yeah, use the tools you're allowed but don't limit the imagination. I can rig up most anything to half arse work, lol.

Good point.

So we need to know where that might be.

I'd think if it's IN the boathouse, sitting up and shooting it will suffice, unless the son doesn't do that sort of thing....

Might want to restrict access to the boathouse with cattle fence and block the entrance with double stacked 330’s on stands. Do this…

If the boathouse is in Florida..I might can help...unless it's in south Florida...or the western panhandle.

I don't think beaver get to far down into Florida. According the late Robb Russell who was in Ft White they were an uncommon issue in his area and none in points south.

Most of my nuisance jobs are in boathouses.

Here's one I'm working on now

And I want no part of it, whatsoever. The water gets hard up there and my bloods to thin to take the cold. I'll live with moccasins and gators before I have to cut holes in my water.

Worst thing is, there is no "standard" method.

Most times you can do an outside the box set, but rarely even look without a gun in hand.

Robb Russell was a great guy. Knew him personally.
