No baits, cameras, or stand's just good ol' hunting.

Public land?

Mostly private, one Peace of Forest service was good for 2 deer.

I guess I've been spoiled because I have always lived where there were plenty of deer. I've never set a trail cam up for deer nor have I ever had to feed them. I realize they do capitalize on my livestock feed and mineral.

Down here I get extra spoiled because I run across a few axis and I don't even have to spend a tag on 'em.

Yep, several folks have videos out. Pretty good guys too. They hunt deer, turkeys, and ducks.

I just use cameras to tell me what I have available. I study the pics like I'm preparing for a college exam. When I get a glimpse or a quick opportunity at one of the chosen ones, I don’t have to hesitate trying to determine if that's one of the bucks I'm after. I can tell from just about any angle the buck presents if that's him. Usually dont get a 2nd opportunity on mature bucks.

Yes, and they recognize the "tres huevos" as a non-typical.

Bottom line, very few " hunt" the way our grandfahers did.
Mine camped out in tents no matter the weather. They had no choice.
Hunting has evolved. We can all stay in a warm place to sleep, take our meat to someone else to process, have atvs to drag them out, ect.
Very few actually hunt deer they way did.
Right or wrong, ain't no denying it.

No bait, no lure, no urine, no trail cameras. Just go out with some footholds, body grips and cable restraints. Find game trails and set blind sets.

Also, I’ll add my name to the list of people who hunt deer. But I also hunt other species. I’m also a big fan of not caring how another person hunts as long as it is legal where they decide to hunt.

Some of y’all take your own opinions a little too seriously.

Anyway, have a good one.

That's some of my favorite trapping, just drop a trap in a runway. I love the simplicity of muskrat and trail setting. It's easy to make any endeavor too complicated. The less you have to carry around trapping, the better, IMO.
There is a difference between simple and easy at times, however. Usually when I over think anything, it loses some of its enjoyment. But, to each his own.

Right now I’m having amnesia and déjà vu at the same time. I think I’ve forgotten this before.

Haha, my son can see a pic of a deer and tell me the date the previous year or years we had a certain buck. We’ve had them disappear and never return and disappear a month, year, or even 2 years and show back up.
Just this evening our neighbors to the West found a deer a guy was hunting and all of a sudden disappeared for the last 2 weeks. No apparent injury, just dead and been that way long enough to smell. This buck would show up right after gun season and stay until he shed then gone again until next October.

I see your point , hunting sure has evolved. Some of the stuff I agree with some I don’t. The tv personalities take it way too far. I do believe that we need to teach our youth how to “hunt” and not just put out corn , a camera, and a blind. Like I said in my first reply, I use cameras and food plots in a management strategy on our acreage, and really enjoy the same aspects that Wannabe has described.

As long as it's legal I don't care how you do it. I've always said a rifle for whitetail is barely hunting.

Spent most of my life hunting public land and making a living promoting it. Literally wrote the book on it. Also dedicated most of my youtube channel to it for many years. Wrote the public land deer hunting column in North American Whitetail for many years.

Here's a link to youtube videos on the subject. [video:youtube]https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLji1C9fBDe5OaWirBxKnNOdfffXxJnlpe[/video]

Me too.

An 8 year old little girl can kill a big buck with a rifle. Not really much of a feat.

Hunting deer with a bow in southern Maine is much easier than rifle hunting deer in northern Maine.
