Had a lady show my son and I a deer she had mounted that was 154” according to the taxidermist that mounted it. We looked at the deer and just nodded our heads and said great deer, who was the taxidermist? She asked if we thought that much of the mount, and before I could give my son the look, he mouthed off no ma’am nothing wrong with the mount be he can’t measure worth a crap.
My son said he’d be happy to score it again for her and she could take down the measurements. He got done and told her to add it up. I think she was more mad for being lied to by the taxidermist than my son for shattering her buck, lol.
Come to find out her husband told the taxidermist if it was more than 150” to shoulder mount it. If it was less then do a Euro on it. It was 133” as a main frame 10 with a kicker. The taxidermist told them what she wanted to hear and shoulder mounted it.

Good Lawd can’t we just have a friendly post about a great deer? Who cares? I picked that pic because I thought folks could get a real good look at it and give a true to size guess and most did. I like it when folks show their work and then can see where they missed. It wasn’t for ragging, I look at it as a learning experience. I’ve been fooled hundreds of times. I even bet a buddy money based on pics and was off almost 30” once I saw it in person and put a tape on it. It scored so high from what I guessed three others scored it within .5”, lol. We all got schooled on pics that day. I however, was the only one to lose money!!!
