I like lots of swivels on my coyote setups. Thinking about adding some of the #10 hd barrel swivels in line. I like the idea of keeping the mud and debris out. Any reason to not use them?

The only barrel swivel I can picture are the fishing ones that I wouldn’t trust to be anywhere near strong enough. What’s wrong with the normal ones like MB crunch proof?

Lot of guys are using them on there coyote traps. You can buy KO traps with the barrel swivels as an option. I knew a guy here in NE that had them on his coyote traps back in the 70's. Caught over 100 coyotes a year.

To keep mud and debris out try JC Conner rod swivels. They don’t hold as much dirt and grass are super tough and bed great !

FnT carries the #10 barrel swivel rated for 1200pds. A dozen for like 10 bucks. I like short chains and at least two swivels. All crunchproof right now but imma gonna order a dozen and try them out.

Do y’all do extra swivels because of longer check period times? Or do you add chain or run drags and need the extra swivels other than what comes on stock traps? I run MB550’s and have never had an issue. Now mine hooked to drags have several other MB crunch proof swivels added, but that just because of the extra length of chain and drag.

Wanna, my main reason is all of the free roaming domestics that like it or not , end up where they shouldn't be. I crosstake for the biggest coyotes and the more swivels going seems to keep things in better working order. With the muddy freeze that happens here a lot, even the best swivels get clogged. I'm not looking to replace my crunch proofs, just supplement.

I have a lot of grassy areas and the grass gets clogged in the bigger crunch proof regular swivel. the sterling or conners swivels don't collect grass. I've used the barrel swivels for several years on body traps. No issues. I have never had one come apart or jamb. I have a few on rat traps - they are expensive.

Just passin through

Copy that..while I do deal with incidentals I don’t deal with the freezing temps. I have had grass get in the swivels but never enough to hinder them. Heck, possums are the worst at clogging a swivel, everything else doesn’t seem to create an issue.
